Nix probably wouldn’t have looked at Ash twice. In fact, it was hard to think of a scenario when their paths would have crossed at all.

But now, Ash was getting out.

Surely Nix wouldn’t be far behind him? Colt knew what Nix meant to him. Ash knew he’d already asked a lot of the MC, and he’d given barely anything back. But once he was out, he was going to be a devoted little MC bitch. Prospect. Whatever they called it. He’d live and breathe Black Coyotes. This was who he was now. This was who he’d be.

“You ready, Rivers?” the guard said, as Ash was marched through the corridors.

Ash was twitchy. Nervous, excited. “I’ve got to see Nix, I’ve got to see Nix.”

The guard yanked on the handcuffs a little, bringing Ash to heel. “Hey, moron, don’t get ahead of yourself, you don’t get to make demands, you’re still in prison right now-”

“I gotta see-”

The guard pursed his lips. “Lucky for you they want to see you in the hospital wing. Check you out. I reckon it’s an MC favor, ‘cause you know who else is there right now?”

“Nix,” Ash hissed. He physically shivered with anticipation.

“I don’t know how you do it, but there’s a fuck load of guys on motorcycles outside the gates, too.”

“What?”

“Been there all morning, revving about the parking lot, too. Fucking nuisance.”

Ash grinned from ear to ear. Colt. The MC. Ash’s MC now. His family. His home. Getting out and going home. He was so full of joy.

* * *

But the balloon that had replaced his heart nearly popped when he saw Nix. Lying in bed. Looking thinner, grayer somehow. Pale.

“Nix,” Ash said, his throat seizing up.

Nix turned but didn’t sit up, didn’t raise his head. Didn’t crack a smile.

“I’m getting out.”

“Today?” Nix asked, eyebrows raised.

“Yeah.”

“Oh right, come to bid me a final farewell then?”

Ash frowned. “More like a ‘see you later, asshole’. I’m coming back for you.”

Nix scoffed. “Yeah, right.”

Ash went to sit on the side of Nix’s bed. Nix didn’t shift and there was no room for Ash. Ash persevered though. “Nix, I’m coming back for you. I’m going to get the MC lawyers on the case, we’ll get you out, and then I’ll be back to pick you up in no time-” but as he said the words he knew he was lying. It wouldn’t feel like no time. It would feel like eternity.

Nix sighed, a long, weary sigh. “Don’t wait for me, hey?”

“What?”

“I mean, go out there and have some fun, huh?”

“You mean… don’t stay exclusive to you?” Ash raised his eyebrows.

“Yeah. I like thinking about you… with someone else, I’d like to watch you, with someone else.”

“Oh, Nixy…” The thought of Nix with someone else drove him half wild with jealousy and lust. He wanted to see Nix kissing, fucking, but not with another man. Ash couldn’t bear thinking about Nix replacing him. Getting cozy in another cell with someone that wasn’t himself. He wanted to see Nix fuck a woman, he wanted to watch, hell, he wanted to join in and see that chaotic rage Nix brought clash with someone soft and supple.
