“Cut the crap, Reece. Where are you?”

Reece is silent, and it only adds to my increasing anxiety. The crippling feeling of not being able to protect my family.

“What’s it to you?”

All the wind is sucked from my lungs, making it difficult for me to even think, let alone speak. My heart hurts at his ruthless accusation. Never feeling enough in my son’s life is a bitter pill to swallow.

I clear my throat at the emotion clogging there. “I love you, Reece, and I just wanted to know you’re safe. That’s why I asked where you are.”

I can hear him walking and then his voice lowers. “I’m fine. I’m with a friend, okay?”

His words don’t appease me, they only fill me with intrigue, making me want to scream, what fucking friend?

I lick my lips, unsure of how to word my feelings, not wanting to push him away further.

“A girl,” he clarifies softly, as though knowing I need more information, a glimmer of being allowed another step closer into his life.

“A girl?”

“Yes, a fucking girl,” he snaps back.

I rub a hand over my head a little in shock, it’s the most he’s shared with me about his private life. “Oh.”

“Happy?”

No, I’m not fucking happy, my eighteen-year-old son is what, exactly? Dating? And I know next to nothing about it. Of course I’m not fucking happy.

I change the subject because not only is this something I don’t want to deal with right now, but I’d rather discuss it in person.

“Do you know anything about the alarm going off on the South Street apartment?”

“Oh, yeah. That’s me. I needed somewhere to bring her, so I’m using the apartment.”

My back bolts ramrod straight, and I choke on thin air.

“We’re studying, Dad. Before you have a fucking coronary.”

“Studying?” I query. “Well, why couldn’t you study here?”

Reece scoffs. “Seriously? With Chloe around, she tried to poison Pussy today, Dad. She’s a fucking psycho in the making and you know it.” I jolt at his words. My little girl is most certainly not a psycho; she’s as pure and innocent as humanly possible, and his comment about trying to poison Pussy? Talk about dramatic, I roll my eyes.

“Well, you have a curfew, make sure you stick to it.”

“Of course. Jesus, you know I always do.”

“Okay. Well, be careful and...”

The phone goes dead, and for the second time tonight, I stare at it in utter disbelief.

At least one good thing comes out of Reece being gone, I finally get some alone time with Lily.

ChapterSix

Lily

The bedroom door opens and a disheveled-looking Cal steps into the room. I sit up on the bed, then slowly move on to all fours and crawl toward him. He rakes over my naked form as I’m level with his cock, and when I lick my lips, something inside him snaps. The tension radiates from him.

He roughly unbuckles his belt and snags it from the loops before he throws it to the floor. “You need to get a handle on this Reece shit, Lily. He wasn’t with Oscar. But something tells me you knew that already.”
