But it doesn’t matter. The name of the camps, the orcs, none of it mattered to me. Not once I saw her.

I can smell the magic on her. It’s intoxicating.

The magic seems to burn off her in clouds of green, like her eyes.

And it frames her exquisite face and her trim, slender frame.

When I look at her, a flame is lit inside me. Something I cannot undo. Something I’m not sure that I want to undo.

My eyes keep lingering around her mouth. Her lips are full but small.

She is perfect.

I had guessed that she was the one who had enchanted me. My suspicions were confirmed when she ran.

Her spirit is as alive as her sparkling eyes. I can feel her frustration. I can feel her annoyance.

She’s scared too. But she has her fear by the collar and is refusing to let it take over.

“What are you going to do to me?” Her voice is small when she asks.

The human girl is hugging herself and looking down. It’s a good question. And something that I do not have an answer to.

She intrigues me and frustrates me … it seems that our emotions are in sync.

I know she has caused my madness, has caused me to deviate from my mission.

What should I do with her?

“I don’t know yet,” I said, shrugging. “All I know is you’ve done something to me. And I want to know what.”

“So where are we going?” She asked me more boldly this time. Her voice makes me burn.

“We are going back to the citadel north of here,” I grunted, flexing my shoulders.

My wings burst from my back, and she jumped backward.

I give her no time to adjust but lift into the air. I grab the human girl by the forearm and pull her along with me.

And away we go.

It’sdark when we reach the citadel. The other demons have set up camp. And that old mad bastard is nowhere to be seen.

I’m actually quite relieved about that.

The soz’garoth makes me uneasy, and I’m never quite sure why.

The other demons start crowing and laughing when I walk in, pushing the human girl in front of me.

I know my eyes are narrowed, and my lips are twisted. These other demons always insist on making spectacles of everything.

“And who is this?” This comes from Kryon, a demon I despise. He leers at the human girl menacingly.

I’m not sure why this makes my hackles rise, but it does. I step in front of her, holding a clawed hand up to his face.

His eyes narrowed, and I felt the hot air from his exhale on my face. But my threat is clear, nonetheless, and he stepped back.
