“We just want to thank everyone for being here today,” Kevin– the asshole– says, standing with a glass extended out. He has his arm around Jenna lovingly. I want to be happy for my sister, but right now all I feel is rage and disappointment.

“Yes, thank you, everyone,” Jenna says weakly. She looks over at our table. She sees Ysenia’s back to her and tears fill her eyes.

How the hell did you expect Ysenia to respond?

“We’ll begin the activities soon,” Kevin smiles and helps Jenna take her seat. Jenna can’t peel her eyes off of Ysenia.

“This is such a tragedy,” Janette whispers to her husband Grant. “We should leave. I don’t support this at all.”

“Me neither. Let’s go,” Grant replies, setting his napkin down on his plate.

“You don’t have to leave on my account,” Ysenia says faintly with her eyes lowered

“Of course, we do,” Janette smiles and her husband helps her up. They both walk over to Ysenia. Janette bends down and hugs Ysenia.

“I’m so sorry she did this to you, Ysenia. You were always a great friend to her,” Janette whispers then stands.

“Very sorry, Ysenia,” Grant says. “It was nice meeting you all.”

They leave without giving Jenna a second glance. I watch the heartbreak in Jenna’s eyes. Kevin comforts her as the first tear streams down her face.

“Did you leave anything in my car?” Ysenia asks, catching me off guard.

“What?” I heard her but am really hoping I didn’t hear her right. If she leaves, that will devastate Jenna.

What am I saying? Jenna did this to herself.

“I’ll go with you,” I say before she answers.

“No.” She shakes her head and sets down her fork. “Your sister needs you.”

“But you need me more, Ysenia.” She giggles but not a happy giggle. More of ayeah righttype of giggle.

“I’ll be fine,” she smiles.

Her eyes are filled with so much pain yet she is smiling. She has pushed down all emotions and put on a mask. A mask to hide all of the hurt.

“Ysenia–” I start to say.

“None of that. This is a time for you to celebrate your sister’s happiness,” she replies, still smiling. She pushes out of her chair. “It was so nice to see all of you again. I’m glad you’re all doing well.”

“Ysenia, are you sure it’s a good idea for you to drive?” Mila asks. She looks terrified.

“You’re a sweetheart,” Ysenia states standing. “I’ll be fine. I promise.”

“Yeah, but… but… maybe you should just confront Jenna. Give her a piece of your mind. You might feel better.”

For once in my life, I agree with Mila. Jenna deserves to be cussed out. Honestly, she deserves her ass kicked.

“No. This is her event. Besides nothing to confront her about.” Ysenia pushes in her chair and picks up her purse from between our chairs.

“She invited you to her wedding! A wedding where she’s marrying the manyouwere engaged to. The man she stole then left the country to hide it. She was your best friend, Ysenia. You need to go confront that bitch,” she growls.

A few people from the other tables listen in. Shock fills their eyes. They look at Jenna in disgust.

“Is that true?” a man from another table asks Mila.

“Yes!” she yells, standing up and slamming her fists on the table. Her belly is so big I’m surprised she hasn’t had her baby yet.
