All eyes are on her. And I do meanalleyes, including my mother and Hank.

“Mila Williamson, what is the meaning of this?” my mother demands.

“Why don’t you ask Jenna?” Mila snaps at my mother with her finger, pointing at Jenna. “She’s the one toying with other people’s feelings!”

“Jenna, what is she talking about?” My mother turns to Jenna. Jenna’s cheeks turn bright red and tears pour from her eyes.

“Serves her ass right,” Mila hmmphs, crossing her arms in front of her chest in satisfaction. Her husband rubs her stomach.

“I think we should go too. This is all too much for the babies,” her husband says standing up.

Ah, babies. No wonder she looks like she’s about to pop and her emotions are rampid.

“Jenna?” my mom prompts again. Jenna buries her face in Kevin’s shirt. He holds her, rubbing her back, and whispering something to her. It doesn’t seem to be helping in the slightest.

My mother looks at me and glares.

“What’d you do, Miguel?” she asks.

“Of course, you blame me,” I mutter under my breath.

“On that note, I’m leaving,” Ysenia whispers, walking away from the table towards the exit.

“Ysenia!” Jenna calls out. Ysenia pauses for a second. She holds up a hand and waves slightly without looking back then walks out the door.

I know I should stop Ysenia for Jenna’s sake. It’d be the big brother thing to do. I’ve always looked out for her; however, this time I can’t. Not in good conscience.

“Miguel, go get her!” Jenna sobs.

Now everyone is staring at me.Way to go, Jenna. This was supposed to be a peaceful event.

I stand up and take off after Ysenia. She’s already gotten pretty far. In fact, she is halfway across the parking lot.

“Ysenia!” I yell. My speed has picked up and I’m running after her. When I reach her, I slow down and walk beside her.

“I’m not going back, Miguel,” she whispers. I look at her and see tears streaming down her face.

“Ysenia.” I stop walking and pull her into my arms. She erupts with more tears. “I’m so sorry, Beautiful.”

She doesn’t speak. She just cries. I kiss the top of her head and rub her back.

“It’ll be okay,” I assure her. “Let’s go. I’ll drive if you’d like.”

“Okay,” she whispers.

I lead her through the parking lot to her car. She digs through her purse and pulls out her keys. She hands them to me. I unlock the doors and then open the passenger door.

Ysenia climbs in and I close the door. She stares out the windshield. Her shoulders shudder with each sob she tries to hold in.

Poor thing. I have to fix this,I think, walking over to the drive side and climbing in.

The seat is super close to the steering wheel. I feel and probably look like a sardine in a can. Ysenia looks at me and giggles.

“You can adjust the seat,” she sniffles.

“Just a little bit of a height difference,” I grin, adjusting the seat. “Much better.”

“That’s good,” she says weakly.
