Should she turn herself over to the vampires and end this now. Save the shifters. She didn’t know the pack before today, but somehow, she felt attached to them on a level she didn’t understand.

But would that end it? Or would the vampires still fight and take them out?

Mesmerized by the way the shifters worked together, as Kodiak and Ash took over the fight, giving the injured wolf time to recover, she wasn’t sure that was a risk she wanted to take. If it was down to her walking out and them being left alone, she would. But then again, Kodiak was the type to keep fighting to protect her.

Because even now, they protected Tamaska fiercely, all the while caring for their own.

Something brushed against her arm.

Tamaska’s skin prickled. Cory stood right next to her, leaning against the wall casually as if he’d been there for ages, stroking her uninjured arm.

Fear chilled her.

But before she could move, he grabbed her.

His hands wrapped around her neck. Her blood froze, and she couldn’t move.

His fingers were icicles digging into her neck.

Cory increased the pressure around her throat, making it hard to breathe, and he leaned in. “You’re coming with me.”

If she wanted to save Kodiak and the others, maybe this was her chance. She could let Cory take her to Amdis. Maybe then she would really have a chance at finding the Blood Opal.

And hopefully save the shifters at the same time.

“I’m takingyou to Amdis. You’ll be lucky if I don’t drink you dry before you get there.”

She scrabbled against his hold. “Can’t…breathe…”

With a sigh, he loosened his hold slightly. “I think as payment for letting you live, I’ll have a taste of you.”

“He’ll kill you if you do.” Her words made Cory pause.

“Maybe, maybe not. And maybe I’ll just have some fun with you.”

“The other vampire, before he was killed, told me Amdis wants me in one piece. So you better treat me like precious cargo.”

She hated speaking like that, but she needed him to let go of her neck and get her out of there before Kodiak realized what was happening.

“Come on. This time I’m getting my reward for real.” Cory released her neck and twisted her arm behind her back, forcing her to walk in front of him.

Tamaska allowed him to guide her, heart racing. She’d think of an escape plan once she learned what Amdis had planned for her. The vampires not wanting to kill her had advantages she intended to exploit.

She detected a sound behind her, the softest of movements. She frowned, still not sure why her hearing had become so sensitive, but she was grateful for it, and she slowed, getting ready for anything.

Cory cried out, an agonized scream, and let go of her arm.

She turned, hands up in fists, as the injured wolf attacked him. The wolf—Olcan—went in hard, his movements flailing and so close to Cory, making it impossible for her to jump in and help without hurting him. Her gut twisted.

“No!” she shouted. Olcan couldn’t risk any more damage.

But he didn’t pay attention, and she held her breath as Olcan’s wolf snapped at Cory. Fresh blood streaked down his pelt, pouring from a wound above his hip.

Olcan didn’t let the wound slow him down. He fought just as fiercely as the others.
