Tamaska grabbed the side of the table and swung around the edge. She had only one chance to get out. Her feet hit the floor hard, and she didn’t miss a beat as her muscles contracted. Her instincts heightened as she broke into the fastest sprint of her life.

For her life.

She ran.

Kodiak

Kodiak’sinner wolf pushed hard towards the surface, desperate for free rein as he entered the vampires’ nightclub, a place purely designed for their own sick pleasures in a human-centric world. How they got away with indulging those pleasures, he wasn’t sure. He vowed to put an end to it once the Blood Opal was safely back where it belonged.

Time had come for the truce to end.

The bloodsuckers had broken those tenuous bonds with this whole Blood Opal issue. Not to mention seemingly taking this vile place to another level.

But losing control, handing over the reins to his wolf wasn’t the smartest thing, no matter how creepy this place was during the day. And it was. Creepier than at night, somehow. His skin crawled as his instincts rose to high alert.

No one seemed to be here, but he didn’t believe that for a second.

It reeked of vampire, like their stench had soaked deep into the walls. And he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to pick up a live one with his wolf pulling at him, urging to be freed.

But if he did that, he’d be all instinct. He needed the balance, so he promised to run in the bush, to take a trip deep into the Blue Mountains where his wolf could run free and wild.

After the mission was over.

Besides, the mission also meant his wolf would be able to destroy vamps. When needed.

His wolf settled—not happy, that twisting, pulling inside him told him that—but he could think now without wanting to rip flesh and crush bones.

No matter how much that appealed.

Your time will come,he reassured his wolf. An upcoming fight with the vampires was inevitable, and even more so now that he was inside their nightclub all alone.

He stopped a moment, breathing in.

One thing stood out amongst that stench of vamp—Tamaska.

Her scent was strong and easy to follow across the dance floor and under the balcony. He paused again as he itched to go up there and look for the gem.

It had to be there. It was the safest place to keep it, plus it would provide easy access to it during their rituals.

Could Ash really be right? The blood stood for life, and the opal for strength? Were the vampires trying to evolve and release chaos on the world?

He knew it had powers, or at least the vamps believed it did, and he’d seen things here… But that level of power was almost breathtaking in its breadth.

But he didn’t think Ash was wrong. And he had to operate under the assumption she’d underplayed it.

Good thing shifters like Kodiak and his team were around to step up and stop them from their evil plans. He had his team searching for more information, and hopefully, by tomorrow they’d have enough for him to formulate a winning plan.

Or maybe he’d luck out right now and get to Tamaskaandthe Blood Opal.

But Kodiak had never been one to rely on something as finicky as luck. That was a fool’s errand, and he was no fool. Besides, Tamaska had a knack for trouble, and he got the feeling she’d landed herself a whole ocean of it.

He ran quietly over the open space and then continued alongside the wall to keep out of sight. He held his breath and looked around, half expecting to see a dozen vampires following him.

After all, getting in was too easy and since the entire place reeked of the bloodsuckers…

But nothing moved.
