A quick, clean kill would be easier than this.

Like his wolf wanted—

Unless the vampire wanted him to do to do this.

Leave that door unattended.

Suddenly Kodiak kicked out, hitting the vampire with force. It fell and he turned, starting back down the alley. If he was out of here, he could move a little more, bring it down without killing it and get it inside—

A heavy grasp pulled Kodiak backwards. A howl of anger erupted from his mouth. Kodiak reached back and grabbed the vampire’s clothing, then pulled the creature over his head with all his strength.

The vampire landed with a thump on the hard ground. They weren’t out of the alley but so be it. He’d take what he could.

Kodiak brought his foot down hard on its neck, snapping the head back against the hard-packed dirt ground.

The creature didn’t move for a moment. That was all Kodiak needed to turn the fight around.

He didn’t have rope or anything so he’d have to use force, and if the thing turned on him, well…they’d just have to get another one.

He vaulted forward, intending to land on the vampire’s chest, but it recovered preternaturally fast, even for a vamp.

Somehow it rolled and was on its feet. Vicious teeth and hands ready to attack.

Fuck it. They’d get another one. The more time wasted out here meant more time out of contact with his pack, and he was more convinced than ever that this might be a diversion tactic.

Divide and conquer or whatever they were doing.

His wolf pushed to the surface and took over. The bloodsucker no longer wanted to play. It wanted to kill. He recognized the excited glitter in its eyes, the way it stopped talking and sized him up.

Giving himself over to his animal side, Kodiak transformed before the vampire had time to defend himself. Or attack.

His wolf sunk his teeth deep into the vampire’s neck and swung sharply from side to side, cracking the creature’s spinal cord. He didn’t stop until he’d torn the vampire apart, staining the ground of the alley with blood. Bone shards scattered among the red, along with body parts and brain matter.

It pleased him and his wolf that he made the kill so quickly.

Motion in his periphery caught his attention. He reacted, springing quickly out of the way, turning in midair to come down on his attacker. Another vampire met its swift death.

The small space in the alley was beginning to look like a scene from a horror movie.

Kodiak remained in wolf form as he crossed from the alley to the clubhouse, and he pushed open the door, leaping round to shove it shut with his snout. He stalked down the hall. He’d killed two vampires within minutes, if any had gotten in…then his wolf form was the best way to deal with them.

And, if they had…he expected that there would be more lurking nearby, waiting to make a move.

He caught the next vampire by surprise, and he went straight for the jugular, killing it instantly. They’d infiltrated the main building, so he didn’t have time to bring one down alive.

His wolf maintained an intense pace, not missing a beat as another vampire appeared. Kodiak needed to reach the meeting room, where there was more room to move, but the vampires’ attacks were relentless.

Never before had he faced so many vampires. He sent out a warning to the pack, hoping like hell one of them received it.

This was an ambush, something the vampires had set up, planned.

And maybe he’d gone and handed them the sweet surprise of Tamaska.

But he refused to go there. He needed to fight, and right now, he was all she had.

They kept coming. As soon as he’d killed one, another would appear. It was hard to keep up with the chaos of their attacks, and his muscles began to ache.

Finally, he looked up from a kill and didn’t see another vampire racing towards him. He paused, not sure what their plan was, but he doubted this was the end of the attacks. It had been too easy. There would still be more coming for him. He needed to be ready.
