Blood oozed down her arm,and Tamaska pressed her hand hard against the wound. Ash transformed into her wolf form and started to fight the vampire that had come from nowhere, bursting into the basement minutes after they’d got there.

She wanted to help but Ash forbade it, claiming they needed her alive.

Hell, she needed herself alive. But she didn’t want anyone to die because of her.

The vampire dove at her and Ash’s quick thinking and strength, together with her kicks and punches, had fought it back.

But now it came for Ash. Blood stained the wolf’s stunning white-and-grey coat, and Tamaska’s heart twisted.

How could Ash keep fighting if she was injured? She needed help and Tamaska’s muscles tensed, readying to join.

If she jumped in too soon, she could cause more injury, and though the vampire was vicious, Ash managed to hold her own.

As she searched for an opening to help, her throat turned dry and tight at the sight of the vampire.

Ash slashed down with a clawed paw and then pounced, jaws gnashing.

The creature went limp.

But there wasn’t time to relax because the door burst open and another appeared.

This one eve faster than that last.

Its unnatural speed shocked Tamaska. Before she could move and defend herself, the vampire slashed out with a knife.

Ash’s wolf landed on the vampire, and Tamaska took the moment to grab the knife that fell, her injured arm burning, hurting as she did so. She let loose another scream and came in low with the weapon and plunged it into the vampire’s chest.

Ash growled and bit down.

Bile rose as her stomach turned.

She’d…she’d stabbed someone.

Oh, God.

No, not someone, a vampire.

Her knees went weak, and she reached for the wall to steady herself.

A hiss of warning and malice came from the door, and Tamaska turned in its direction.

Fuck. Another vampire.

She locked eyes with the female vampire as it walked towards her, mouth open to show off her sharp fangs. Another hiss sent Tamaska’s pulse racing erratically.

Tamaska stepped backwards, shoving away the fear as she balled her hands into fists.I fought Cory, I can fight this bitch.

Another vampire joined the female and leapt at Ash.

The female smiled and came for her. She raised her fists, readying, trying to ignore the growing pain from where the first vampire had injured her.

The vampire stared at the blood and licked her lips, and Tamaska wanted to kill her for that hungry look alone.

“Fuck you,” she said. “You don’t get me.”

“We’ll see, stupid, weak human.” The vampire lunged.

Tamaska swung and kicked but her injury made her wobble, her punch weak.
