Miles looks at Chase. “You do plan on marrying her, right?”

“Relax, big brother. I tried to get her to dip down to city hall with me, but she refused. I’d marry her in a heartbeat, but I don’t need a ring on my finger to know what I got.” He hooks his arm around my side and pulls me in, kissing my temple.

I shrug. “The first time around, I was going to get married, then do the family thing, and look how that turned out. Right now, I just want to concentrate on getting ready for this baby.” My hand skims down over my tummy and I look up at Chase. “I know neither of us is going anywhere.”

“You can say that again.” He smiles down at me.

“Except for me. Right now. I have to pop out and meet someone.” I pull away from Chase and look at my brother, sucking in a deep breath. This is the part I was most nervous to tell him.

Miles gives me the once-over. “I was wondering why you were already dressed and ready to go. Who are you meeting?”

“Um… I’m just going to help someone with something for the day.”

Miles frowns. “I didn’t realize you knew anyone in Chicago. Except for me.”

“Well… I didn’t. They’re new here too.”

Chase chuckles. “Just tell him, sunshine.”

Miles stills. “Tell me what?”

I shift in place. “Bryce got a job atSportsverse Magazineand their head office is here in Chicago, so she just moved here. I’m helping her unpack and get organized at her new place.”

My brother blinks a few times, slowly. “Bryce lives in Chicago now?”

I nod. “Yep. But it’s a big city. I’m sure you guys won’t even see each other.”

I give Miles what I hope is an encouraging smile. I still don’t know what the deal is between those two, but I’m certain it’s more than the line each of them has given us—“we’re just too different” or “we just don’t like each other.”

When he still doesn’t move, I say, “Miles, say something.” It’s like he’s gone catatonic.

He snaps out of it, giving his head a shake. “You’re right, it’s a big city. I’ll never even see her. It’s not gonna be a problem.”

But something in my gut, call it newfound motherly intuition, says that he’s one-hundred-percent wrong about that. I guess only the future will tell.
