Page 50 of It Has To Be You

“It’s done,” Nick said, holding his phone screen out, showing Ethan the proof. “I was going to pay you back, you know. All you had to do was ask.”

Ethan stood taller and worked his jaw from side to side, looking like he was gearing up to give Nick a piece of his mind, so Indy slid her hand into his.

“Take me home.”

ChapterFifteen

Ethan was firm as he manhandled her into his apartment, turning them expertly and backing her up once the door was closed behind them. There, she was pressed toe to clavicle between him and the wall. It took a minute for her senses to settle, having shorted out the second he’d touched her.

They’d come straight here from the bookstore, but Indy couldn’t remember a single second of the journey. Only the anticipation building under her skin and the bone-deep conviction that this was where she was meant to be.

The way he loomed over her, shielding her from view, had her breath coming quicker, her thighs clenching. He had her pinned. Primed.

“Tell me what you want, Snoopy.”

He angled closer still, palms flat on the wall on either side of her head, his chest brushing hers. Indy had to tilt her head up to make eye contact.

“You know what I want.” Of course he did. He’d always known.

His smile grew downright wicked, and his voice was sandpaper. One stroke of the match, and she’d be engulfed.

“But I want to hear you say it.” He raised a hand, teasing her lips with his thumb before running it along her jaw.

Why had she ever doubted this? The way his gaze held her— protective, possessive— so unlike anything she’d ever experienced before and yet easy, practically familiar, to fall into it. Like déjà vu.

She could feel herself growing wetter, her pussy clenching. Begging for release. Empty. Impatient.

And from the way his eyes went molten, he knew it too, because of course he did. She was sure it was written all over her face.

“I want you.”

Their lips met, easy as anything, like they’d kissed a thousand times before, practiced. Familiar. Indy sank into it, sagging against Ethan’s solid chest, knowing he’d catch her.

He did.

Between the jumping beats of her heart, she memorized the taste and texture of Ethan’s mouth, her focus centered on each swipe of his tongue, their shared breaths heavy between them.

Nothing else mattered.

Ethan trailed wet kisses along her cheek, jaw, neck. Each press a brand, claiming her.Mine.

“Do you know what I want?” he murmured.

She could guess.

“I want to wrap you up in a blanket and bring you breakfast in bed and bend you over the fucking couch and worship you. Every time I close my eyes, all I see is bright hair and emerald eyes and the most luscious thighs I’ve ever seen. Shit, Indy. I’m pretty sure those shorts were designed to kill me.”

He was one to talk.

With his firm grip and his glasses and his fluffy hair, his unique brand of getting under her skin had been in effect since the moment she’d looked up (and up) at him where he’d been eyeing her from across Nick’s office.

But if she’d thought he would stop driving her wild now that they were no longer flirting around their attraction, she was learning quickly how wrong she’d been.

It was torturous how slowly he removed her clothes, applying the same methodical concentration she’d praised in the past. Every time she raised her hands to hurry him up, he distracted her with deep, hungry kisses, taking her wrists and holding them at her sides.

“I’ve wanted this for a long time, Indy, and I won’t be rushed.”

Fine, if Ethan wanted to take control, Indy could get on board with that. Eagerly. All day everyday she had a long list of edits or social media posts or plans to make when she’d much rather be reading or talking about reading. But when she did, that little voice in the back of her mind would pop up and remind her of the list, of the tasks she wasn’t completing and the people who were waiting for her to do them.
