“You want a honeymoon?”

She bites down on her lip, nodding.

“Whatever you want,cara.”

“Are there any sex parties in Italy?”

Where did that come from?

“Forget it.”

I chuckle. Kieran took Aurora to one of those parties. Never would have seen that coming, the sneaky asshole.

“Yes, why? Curious?”

“No.” But she gulps, and my dick stands at attention, demanding her warmth.

“I am still taking you, though.”

“You won’t forget it, will you?”

“No. Love you, wife.”

“Love you, too, husband.”

When we hang up, a calmness descends over me. So, this is how it feels to be at peace, and I fall asleep with a smile on my face.

Getting ready for the meeting, I dress in my three-piece suit, my hair styled to perfection. Downstairs, Hayden and I jerk our chins to each other in greeting.

An SUV waits for us outside, and we hop in.

One hour later, the car halts, and an impressive pale-orange villa with marble columns extends across thousands of square feet with dogs and men securing the perimeter.

“The assassin who needs bodyguards . . .” My voice drips with derision.

“Let me assure you. They are more to protect others from me.”

Our heads snap to find Luciana, and she gestures for us to follow.

I ball my hands into fists and shove them in my pockets to stop myself from killing her on the spot. I get in her face, guns already pulled from her men. I smirk. Dots appear on their foreheads, including her chest, from the snipers surrounding the perimeter. Her fury is palpable, and she dismisses her guards with a hand wave. Good, I made myself clear. I hope she tells the Council why I’m here. For an alliance or for war. We follow her inside, and she takes her gloves off.

She switches her gaze from me to Hayden. “I followed your ascent, even admired you. You should have stayed in the shadows.”

She flicks her eyes to me. “I will allow your wife to live.”

I burst into laughter, stride to her, and grip her neck. She smiles with her red painted lips, daring me to do it. “If you ever pull something like that again, you will regret the day you were born.”

“I won’t regret anything, because I will never be on that end.”

I’m not going to kill her. No. I will savor dragging her down from her high horse. I release her with a shove, but she regains her footing quickly.

“Let’s get this over with. Some of us have actual work to do,” Hayden says with his unfazed expression, ending our stare off.

Her knuckles turn white.

Inside the antique Italian decorated house, we follow her through a long corridor and a butler opens the door to an office for us.
