“No clue. Are you two…like a thing?”

“God no,” I blurt out. “I barely know the guy.”

It’s true. I don’t know Ridge. Not in the way I should if he’s threatening guys or coming to my defense. It’s more than obvious he likes me. But this is too much. He’s gone too far this time. Not only is it equally as humiliating as Scar announcing I’m a virgin, it’s psychotic. Which is totally in line with Ridge’s behavior. Watching me. Entering my room. Now this.

And…the cuts on his hand from the other day. It all makes sense now. He must have seen me talking with Cade, and he broke his nose.

“Ridge!” I shout, garnering the attention of the entire class. But it’s his I want, and it’s his I get. “Put him down, now!”

Slowly, Ridge lowers Zeke to the floor. When he drops his hand from his throat, Zeke curls over, gasping for air.

“In the hall, now!” I point a stern finger at the door, feeling like I’m his fucking mom. Either way, it works.

Ridge’s eyebrows pinch together tightly and it’s not a pleasant look he’s shooting back at me, but I’m not too pleased with him at the moment either.

“What are you doing?” Scar asks, her voice low.

“Dealing with this shit.”

Before Ridge even moves his feet, I slide down the row between the tables, certain he’ll follow.

I tear open the door, leaving it open behind me, then I pace in front of the classroom, waiting for him to show his face.

Not even a minute later, he comes out, closing the door behind him.

Standing in front of the wall, he rests one foot on it behind him, appearing bored.

Now that he’s here, I’m not sure what I want to say. Why does he have the ability to make my mind go blank and my body tingle in places it shouldn’t?

It’s like he’s some sort of supernatural force put on this earth to hypnotize me.

With his chin to his chest, his eyes lift to mine in a heated glare, hands snug in the front pockets of his ripped black jeans.

My chest tightens, unwilling to inflate. I feel nervous. I shouldn’t, though. Ridge is the one who should be nervous. He’s the one making an ass out of himself, and me in the process. “Why’d you do that to Zeke?”

He doesn’t say anything. Of course.

His silence makes the thoughts in my head so loud and intolerable. “Jesus, Ridge. Just fucking say something!”

I watch intently as his chest rises and falls rapidly. There’s the unease I was waiting for. “You’re not going to say anything?” I step closer to him, and he doesn't move an inch. Just stands firmly and lets me invade his personal space.

“Why’d you threaten Zeke?” I ask again, now so close I could touch him. “Why’d you tell my best friend to tell me hi instead of saying it yourself? Why do you do anything you do?”

His breath hitches and his mouth opens. “Say something,” I beg him. “Anything.”

Yet, he remains silent.

“Ugh!” I stomp my foot in annoyance. “You’re so infuriating!”

He will speak to me before this one-sided conversation ends. I will do whatever it takes. I will hear his voice.

One more step forward and my chest is flush with his. I can feel his warm breath travel down the dipped V of my shirt and my nipples pucker on impact.

“Do I make you nervous, Ridge?”

My hand extends, fingers spread, and I rest it on his cheek. “Well…do I?”

When he still doesn’t speak, standing there completely unaffected by me, I rest my other hand on his other cheek, then before he can do anything about it, I pull his mouth to mine.
