She hides her face with a pillow. “Little sore. Let’s just say, the guys took good care of me tonight.”

I push myself off the floor, choking down my heartbreak. “Umm. Details, girl. Spill.” I sit down beside her and rip the pillow from her face, holding it in my lap.

The second she sees my face, she bolts upright. “Why are you crying?”

“I’m not.”

Her fingers sweep under my eyes and she holds them up, showing proof of my tears. “What the hell did Ridge do this time?”

Dropping my head into the pillow on my lap, I use it to mask my words. “I did something bad, Scar.”

In a swift motion, she jerks the pillow from me, tossing it across the room. “What the fuck did you do?”

“Had sex with Ridge.”

Her back hits the mattress and she stares wide-eyed at the ceiling. “Girrrrrl. Are you fucking insane? You do realize you basically just invited that vampire into your life?”

“He’s not a vampire.” I tap my chin in thought. “Though, now that I think about it. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him sleep.”

“Is this a joke to you? You literally gave up your V-card to a psychopath.”

“Yup. I’m a virgin no more.” I sing the words, when internally, I am screaming. “It was bound to happen eventually.”

“But, Ridge? He’s so…scary.”

“He is.” My voice goes soft, and I’m given empathetic eyes from Scar, which was not my intention.

“He didn’t force you, did he?”

“No. Actually, I’m the one who threw myself at him. He was being so sweet. Saying all the right words.”

“He was grooming you, babe. That’s what guys like Ridge do.”

“It’s not like that. In my heart, I truly believe Ridge cares about me. He’s just terrible at expressing it and doesn’t want anyone else to love me either.”

“What happened with Maddox? It seemed like you two were getting closer.”

“I thought so, too. Then out of nowhere, he told me nothing more could happen between us because of Ridge. I was really starting to like him, too. After our conversation, I was feeling unwanted and vulnerable, then Ridge said everything I needed to hear. And—”

“You fucked him.”

“Yup.”

While this conversation is great and needs to happen, I can’t help but feel like I should fill Scar in on the situation with Zeke. I know she’ll help me in any way she can. My only fear is that she’ll help too much.

“We need to talk,” I say, tone flat.

She sits up, back straight. “What is it?”

I swallow hard, hoping I can get through this without crying my eyes out.

Then, I tell her everything Maddox told me. My phone. Maddox being a Guardian and knowing about my involvement in the governor’s death. I spill everything, including buckets worth of tears.

By the end of the conversation, Scar is speechless. Her first word out is, “Fuck.”

“Fuck is right.”

“I need to tell the guys,” she says. “Neo can make the whole thing with his father go away. He’s got pull with The Elders over that case that we don’t have. He can demand they drop it and close the case on the inside, just like it’s been done on the outside.”
