“Thought so,” he murmured – and she could practically hear the smile in his voice. “Open your laptop and click on the envelope. I was going to show you this morning, but we slept in.”

She sat down at the dinette and opened the laptop, clicking on the screen as he instructed and saw it open.

“Okay, I’m there.”

“Perfect – now type ‘Sprinkles’…” and she heard him chuckling as she hesitated. “Hello?”

“Did you say, ‘Sprinkles’?”

“Yeah,” he laughed harder. “I figured it would be easy to remember.”

Destiny couldn’t help but laugh with him as she typed, balancing the phone on her cheek, before hitting enter… and sure enough? An email opened with a military email address already saved in the ‘To’ field.

“Did it work?”

“Beautifully,” she chuckled, grinning.

“See? I’m your favorite thing…”

“On cake,” she amended, still laughing.

“On cake,” he affirmed and grew quiet. “I’m going to miss this, you know.”

“Me too. What time do you fly out tomorrow?”

“Paradox and I are getting up at four in the morning and my flight is at seven. We’re literally throwing our bags in the car and heading out.”

“I see.”

“That’s the only reason I couldn’t stay tonight – because I didn’t want to wake you that early or…”

“Or explain where you were?”

“I told Paradox,” he said quietly. “I asked him to keep it a secret because I didn’t want a bunch of people pressuring you or asking about us yet. Someday I would like you to meet my friends because they are amazing, but I would still like things to be between us for now.”

“What did Paradox say?”

“He shrugged and didn’t say much.”

“Oh,” she began and hesitated. “I guess I expected your friend to question it or say something strange…”

“Speaking of strange?”

“Yes?”

“Can I see you one last time before I leave?”

There was such quiet hope in those softly spoken words that she instantly rose to her feet, grabbing her keys.

“I would like that,” she whispered. “Can you text me the address? I’ve probably passed it before, but I’ve never paid attention.”

“It’s coming your way – and I’ll be waiting outside, if you don’t mind? I know it’s late but…”

“I’m already getting in the car.”

“I’ll see you soon,” he murmured. “Be safe.”
