I laughed. “Venus, do you think I’m that guy? Hell, I’ve never come close to living with another person myself. This is new for me just like you. We would have to learn together. Hell, I'm going to make a lot of mistakes, just be warned, but if we really love each other, and want to make it work, I know we can. We are both driven and neither of us let anything stand in the way of what we desire. I want to be with you. Whatever it takes, even if it means we have our own apartments, I want to be with you.”

She got up and came to sit on my lap. “I want to be with you too. And if you’re willing to accept me and all my imperfections, I’m willing to do the same.”

“Imperfections? I haven’t seen any,” I said.

“Oh, I have them. And if we live together, you will see them,” she warned.

“I’m willing to take the risk. I have a feeling you drew the short straw. I’m a work in progress. A lot of work is needed,” I said.

“Then I guess we’re meant for each other,” she said.

“I guess so. There’s so much more I wanted to tell you, but with you on my lap, I’m drawing a blank,” I admitted.

“Good. My plan is working, because I already know what I need to do,” she said.

“And what is that?” I asked.

“That you love me. The rest we can work out over time. Now if you don’t mind, would you kindly stop talking and start kissing?” she said firmly.

“For you, my love, anything,” I claimed her lips and instantly she was giving herself freely as the passion quickly took over us. Getting up, I carried her to bed. The night was young, and we had a lot of lost time to make up for.

I knew once she was in my arms, no way was I making it back to Portland in the morning.

CHAPTER16

Venus

I never thought I’d be living in Cape Cod but here we were, moving into our own place. So much for renting an apartment. There was nothing we found that we liked. So, we decided to purchase instead.

That worked because MaKayla and Damien moved from New York City to Cambridge, Massachusetts. I could visit them with just an hour’s drive, and we could visit his parents with a three-hour drive. I had no idea how we pulled it off, but somehow, Declan and I had been able to make everyone happy, including us.

“I have to admit there is something nice about neither of us having a lot of stuff to move in. A couple of boxes and we’re done,” Declan said.

“Don’t get too excited. They haven’t delivered the bed or the couch yet,” I reminded him.

“Not a problem. We can sleep on my boat,” he replied.

I rolled my eyes. “Really? Tonight? I would think that you would want to spend our first night in our new home making love in each room.” Sex on the boat was great, but not with it docked. Takes all the fun out of sleeping under the stars if you have an audience watching what you’re doing.

We’d spent the last two months living on his sailboat. I enjoyed it, but what was the point of purchasing this place if we weren’t going to utilize it? I missed cooking in arealkitchen. Not that I'd done shopping yet, but I was done with take-out.

“I like the way you negotiate what you want.” he smiled, pulling me into his arms. “And I would take you up on that offer, but I think you’ve forgotten that I have a meeting today with Alex Henderson.”

How could I forget? I couldn’t say that I was happy that they wanted to do business with Declan, but I understood why they did. He was the best at what he did. Tabiq needed someone to come in and teach the people a new trade. They built boats, but nothing like what Declan did. He had clients from all over the world reaching out to him.

Yet here he is willing to walk away from some of them just to go and help my birth home.

It was another reason I loved him. He was a good businessman, but he had a heart. He knew helping Tabiq with knowledge and skill was going to set them up for a brighter future. My generation wasn’t so fortunate. He was trying to help the future ones. He said that he couldn’t undo what was done, but he could help so it didn’t happen again.

“What time is Alex getting here?” I asked.

“I’m actually going to meet him in Boston. I figured you might want to visit your daughter while I was there.”

That worked. “You haven’t answered me. How much longer until your meeting?”

“Two hours. Why?” he asked.

I slipped an arm around his waist and said, “That gives us plenty of time to try the shower.”
