“Not yet.”

The flight attendant brings us both water and coffee.

“Need any food?” I ask Juno.

“No. I can’t eat right now.”

She leans her head against my shoulder and slowly sips her coffee for the rest of the flight.

As soon as we pull up to the White House, she’s out of the vehicle and racing inside. I follow after her. By the time I make it to the residence, I see her buried in James’ arms, shaking with sobs. He has his hand on her head, letting her cry on his chest.

Will walks over to me, “Thanks for getting her home.”

“Of course. How is everyone?”

“Some bruises and a few stitches, but otherwise fine. At least physically.”

“I can’t imagine anything scarier.”

Juno pulls back and studies James’ face. He has stitches over his eye, and there’s a big bruise on his face.

She puts her hand on his cheek. “I was so worried.”

He nods. “I know. We’re all fine.”

Elizabeth is in the doorway. Her face looks worse than James’. She walks into the room and says, “Both the kids are finally asleep. I couldn’t get them to settle down last night on the plane.”

Juno rushes over and hugs Elizabeth, who flinches. Juno jerks back. “Oh, sorry. Did I hurt you?”

“My ribs are bruised. It’s fine.” As Elizabeth walks to the couch, I notice she’s limping.

Apparently, James notices it too. “Are you limping?”

She just looks up at him, rather guiltily. “Yes. I should probably have the doctor check it out.”

“You think?” he says. He’s keeping his voice calm, but he looks like he’s trying not to explode. “Are you hurt anywhere else? Should you go to the hospital?”

“Just call the doctor in here, and he can decide,” she says. James nods to one of the Secret Service agent in the corner, who promptly leaves the room.

“How’s Vivi?” Brooklyn asks.

“Traumatized.” Elizabeth looks at James, who just shakes his head. “Thank god they were in the car seats.”

James nods. “We were buckled too. Vivi always insists that we buckle. The Secret Service agents were not.”

Juno puts her hand over her mouth.

“We couldn’t get the kids out of the car seats.” Tears start running down Elizabeth’s face. “They were hanging upside down. Vivi was screaming. The Secret Service were trying to pull us away.”

“Upside down?” Juno says, looking around confused.

“It flipped,” Will says, softly.

Juno’s eyes widened. “The car flipped?”

“You didn’t watch the video?” Keene asks.

She shakes her head.
