His eyes darkened as I pulled back. Moving forward as I tried to step away, his arm snaked around my waist as his other hand tangled in my damp hair. Tipping my head, he crushed his lips to mine, tongue slipping out to claim my mouth.

It was impossible not to kiss him back.

I whimpered, trembling in his arms as fresh desire filled me. I didn’t think I could get enough of him, but I had to get away.

I had to think and figure out what to tell my brother.

I had to sort through my feelings about the night and what had happened.

And yes, my feelings about him.

Leo released me when I pushed against his chest, though his eyes continued to burn into me as I took a step backward into the elevator. Hitting the button to go down, I shivered as the doors moved, cutting between us.

Just before they blocked my view of him, a smile slid over Leo’s face.

“Don’t think we’re through, omega.”

My breath caught as the doors touched, finally breaking the hold his eyes had on me. Sucking in great gulps of air, I tried to purge my lungs of his scent and calm my racing heart, suddenly feeling like prey. I didn’t know what he meant, but I had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before I found out.

My brain screamed that I needed to cut all ties with him and let whatever this was between us go, but a secret thrill passed through me at the thought of him coming after me. I’d expected Leo to be done with me as soon as he’d gotten what he wanted, but Leo had already broken all my other expectations.

Ineeded to be done withhim. He wasn’t someone I should be associated with, and even with the breath of space the extra money from last night bought me, I was still too busy for anything but work and taking care of my family.

Pulling out my phone, I double checked my account, the available amount making my pulse jump. Six thousand dollars would get us caught up on the mortgage so I could breathe again.

A smile crossed my face as I stepped out of the elevator. No matter what happened next, I’d always have the memory of last night. Leo wasn’t the type of man who could be forgotten, even if that would be the smartest thing to do, and I couldn’t believe he’d spare any more attention for me now. I wasn’t the type of woman he was used to. He could have whoever he wanted.

Ducking my head, I turned north, heading for the transit center to catch the next bus home, content to walk and reminisce.

Epilogue

Leo

Ilet her go.

For now.

I was serious about what I’d said as she left. There was no way I was through with her.

Buttoning my cuffs, a smirk pulled up the corner of my lips. Her scent still lingered in my room, and I was tempted to tell the cleaning crew to stay out so it would last longer.

I’d give her time to think like she wanted. Time to slip back into her everyday life and try to forget me.

I chuckled as I stared out the window at the street below.

There was no chance of me letting that happen. Cadence was addictive. One taste would never be enough, I was hooked.

I wasn’t sure how long I could wait, but I’d try to give her some space. Let her miss me a little.

I’d keep an eye on her, of course. I was already thinking of ways to convince her to come see me again, I just needed to wait for the right moment.

Cadence was mine. Even if I had to buy more time with her, that little omega wasn’t going to get away from me now.

Cadence

Pushing the hair from my face, I leaned against the counter with a sigh. Frankie’s had been busy with families bringing in their graduates to celebrate, and even though I had a pocket full of ones and fives, I knew it still wasn’t enough.

I’d been shocked by how fast the extra six thousand from my auction disappeared, but when you’re a few months behind on your mortgage and have medical debt on top of the cost of living, money didn’t stretch far. I still had creditors calling.
