The three of them burst out laughing.

“Okay, Rihanna. Shine bright.” Kiki smirks and leans in to kiss me on the cheek. “Thank you, it’s beautiful.”

“Don’t mock me, sluts. It’s a real diamond, and those are semi-precious garnets, onyx, and citrine.”

“We love you, TJ. It’s perfect and beautiful.” Andie beams, clasping her bracelet and admiring the charms.

“We’ll never take it off,” Sarah says.

“I love you three bitches too, even though you mock my diamond. I couldn’t do life without you.” I walk over to Kiki and help haul her up. “Oh, one more thing. As your doula and midwife—”

“Nope, not happening, Turd Jam.”

“—I persuaded the nurse to tell me the sex of your baby after your ultrasound the other day when you and Tatum were being gushy and annoying saying you didn’t care what the sex was, you just wanted a healthy baby.”

“I remember…” Kiki eyes me suspiciously. “What do you mean you persuaded? Wait, you know what it is? Tell me!”

I stroke my chin and look up at the sky. “But you said you didn’t care.”

“I don’t.” She noncommittally shrugs, but by the way she’s chewing her bottom lip, I know it’s killing her not to know. She spins in a circle looking to Sarah and Andie for help, but they just shrug, bemused smiles on their faces.

“Are you sure?”

“Okay, fine. Tell me. I need to know. No wait, don’t tell me. Tatum should be here for it. But I’ve got to know. Dammit, TJ,” she yelps. “Why do you do this to me? Don’t stand there smiling like that, tell me!” She stomps her foot, her hands clenched. The glitter in her hair catches the sun. I adore her to pieces.

“Hello? Isn’t it obvi? I mean, I nailed it this time if I do say so myself.”

“TJ!” the three girls shout.

“The blue glitter bomb? You guys are covered in blue.”

Kiki stares at me in shock, not processing what I’m saying. Sarah covers her mouth and squeals. I guess I have to spell it out for her.

“Kiki, you’re having a boy.” I take more glitter out of my pocket and throw it in the air. “Surprise!”

“Wait, are you sure? A boy?” She runs her hand over her stomach. “I’m having another boy? But that’s not what I…I mean, of course I want a healthy baby, but Ireallywanted a girl, you guys. Like, really, truly, madly wanted a girl.”

“Awe, honey.” I wrap her in a hug. “You’re the best boy mom I know. No one else could put up with their shit like you do. God must have known you could handle another.”

“I do love my boys.” She laughs through her tears. “Well, fuck. Here we go again.”

Chapter 33

Andie

My hand rubsmy belly in a circular motion as I breathe through my nose. Shit, this is it. The baby’s coming early. I walk down the hallway to the kitchen. I need to call Cam. Looking down at my watch, I whimper. He had a meeting on the other side of town and it’s rush hour. Stabbing pain has me grabbing the edge of the countertop. “Oh god, that fucking hurts. Call Cam,” I say to my watch. Cam’s voicemail picks up.

“Babe, it’s me. Uh, I think the baby has decided to come two weeks early. Meet me at the hospital.”

Next, I call Kiki, but her phone goes straight to voicemail. Same with Sarah’s phone. Shit, shit, shit. I don’t want to bother TJ because he has the twins to deal with. I call the office. My replacement, Claire, picks up.

“Nashville Style, Claire speaking. How can I make your day better?”

“Claire, it’s Andie,” I pant as another contraction rolls through me. Shit, they’re close. Too close. “Can you have Kiki call me ASAP? It’s an emergency.”

“Oh, sure thing! I’m pretty sure she’s in her office. At least I hope she is, or I totally zoned out when she walked by my desk.” She snorts. “Oh, no. Don’t mention I said that to Kiki. She kind of scares me. Um, so now that I have you on the phone, I’m looking at the computer and wondering…are the client files supposed to be alphabetized—”

“Claire! I can’t right now, please go interrupt whatever she’s doing!”
