“It felt like home,” I admitted. “A job I could stay at for years and not feel restless to move on to something else.”

Viper got up and padded naked toward me. He reached out and dragged me against him. “Home is important.”

“Yeah.”

“You’ve never had it.”

“No.”

“I haven’t had it in a very long time,” he said quietly. “So move in with me. We’ll have a home together.”

Wrapped in his warm embrace, the smell of his skin in my nose, the promise of something so normal after years of the complete opposite had me nodding.

“Say it.”

“I’ll move in with you.”

“And?”

“And I won’t worry about the money.”

“Good.” He brushed his lips across the top of my head. “I’d never hold it over you. You get that, right?”

“I get that.”

“Then you were just putting up a fight because?”

“I’m sass and ass, remember? It’s what I do.”

He lightly smacked the curve of my butt. “And you do it so well.”

“Can I hold that?”I asked.

Allison frowned. “Hold what?”

“That.” I pointed at her baby.

She raised her brows. “My son? You want to hold my son?”

“Yeah.”

“Okay. It’s ahim, not athat,” she said with a laugh as she handed him over. “Why do you want to hold him?”

I took Tank and put him to my hip. “Trying it out. See how it feels. Whew. Is he a baby or an anvil?”

“He’s a healthy eater,” Allison said.

I looked at Tank and he gave me a gummy grin. I smiled back. He fisted a handful of my hair in his chubby little fingers.

“Jeez, I think that’s the fastest I’ve seen a woman succumb to baby fever,” Darcy remarked.

Brooklyn had her feet propped up on the coffee table and a bowl of ice cream resting on her belly. “There’s something about these men…are you seriously already thinking about kids with Viper?”

The other Old Ladies turned their attention to me. We’d congregated in the living room while everyone else was outside watching a movie on a projector screen.

“He asked me to move in with him,” I admitted.
