“Thanks,” I said, taking them both from her. “Has anyone seen Viper?”

“He left about an hour ago with Raze and Smoke,” Mia said.

“Hmm.” I took a few gulps of water.

“How’s the arm feeling?” Doc asked.

“Okay, actually. It’s a discomfort more than an actual pain.”

“That’s good,” Doc said. “Let me know if you need me to take a look at it, okay?”

“I will.”

“Well, I need to get out of here. Glad you’re okay, Sutton.” Doc grabbed her purse and left the clubhouse.

“You hungry?” Brooklyn asked. “I made muffins.”

“What kind?”

“Blueberry, lemon poppyseed, and cranberry.” She beamed.

“And I’m guessing they’re not from a mix, right? You made them from scratch?”

“Yep. And they were made in the middle of the night, much to Slash’s consternation.” She chuckled. “So how about it?”

I nodded. “Lemon poppyseed, please. I need to run upstairs and grab my antibiotics.”

“Where are they?” Rach asked. “I’ll get them for you, so you don’t have to get up.”

“Angel,” I murmured. “Nightstand. Viper has a bottle too, so make sure you read the label, please.”

“Got it,” she said and headed for the stairs.

Darcy was looking into her cup of coffee. I wondered if she was even listening to our conversation.

“Darcy?” I asked.

She lifted her head. Her eyes were dull, but she met my gaze.

“Thanks for coming,” I said.

“Why wouldn’t I come?” she asked.

I shrugged, and then winced when it tugged on my skin as my arm moved. “I just figured…with all your stuff going on…”

And the words we’d exchanged…

“This is how we pull through,” she said. “By being there for each other.”

I heard what she said, but it didn’t ring sincere. She was trying, though.

Rach returned with my antibiotics, and Brooklyn handed me a warm muffin.

“I have news,” Mia announced.

“You’re pregnant again?” Allison asked.

Mia shook her head. “Nope. That’s on hold. I came to my senses for now.”
