“Sure.”

I poured him a cup.

“Didn’t think you’d be up yet,” Savage said when I handed him the mug. “Considering Viper took you to his room last night…”

I rubbed my forehead. “Right. You saw that.”

“Weallsaw that. Believe me, we were all fucking surprised as hell. I guess every lid has a pot or whatever. So, you guys together now or what?”

“You’re such a gossip,” I said dryly.

“Yeah, I definitely am.” He took a sip of his coffee. “I have no shame about it.”

“I don’t understand men,” I stated.

“Men? Or Viper?”

“Aren’t they the same?” I drawled.

“Are all women the same?”

I sighed. “You’re insightful. Fuck. I wasn’t expecting that.”

“I like to keep people guessing. I’m more than a pretty smile with six-pack abs.”

“You have a six pack?” I asked in amusement.

“Nah. It’s an eight pack. Come on. Let’s go out back and I’ll help you sort through whatever’s going on in your head.”

We took our coffees and walked through the clubhouse. It looked worse for wear, and I surmised the party had been a rager.

I hadn’t moved from bed after Viper left my room, and at some point I’d fallen asleep. My sleep wasn’t restful, and I’d spent most of the night plagued with nightmares about the man I’d killed. And then when I finally woke up, I’d immediately begun to think about Viper.

The bonfire had been put out, but heat still radiated from the coals. Savage and I sat in two camp chairs as the early morning light streaked across the sky.

“This is weird,” I said. “Talking to you about Viper and girl stuff.”

“Pretend I’m Carla. What would you say to her?”

“Nothing,” I admitted. “We don’t really talk about stuff that much.”

“You guys are friends though, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Don’t friends tell each other things? Ask for advice?”

“We keep our own council,” I said.

“Ah.”

“You don’t?”

“Sometimes,” he said. “But not usually. You haven’t met Duke and Willa yet.”

“Who are Duke and Willa?” I asked in confusion.

“Duke’s one of the brothers, but the three of us have been friends since we were kids. Duke and Willa just kinda got together, so that’s a new dynamic, but I still talk to them when I need to talk to people.”
