Suddenly, I was very awake. I shot up, startling him.

“What?” Viper asked. “What’s wrong?”

“You’d take care of me andthe baby?” I asked.

“Well, yeah.” He frowned.

“But there is no baby.”

“But every time we fuck, there’s the potential for that.”

“Well, no shit, Sherlock. I know basic human biology. It’s the frog reproduction cycle I had a problem with in class.”

“Frogs?”

“Yeah. Tadpoles? Come on. They look like giant sperm.”

“This conversation is getting out of control.”

“You started it.”

“How didIstart it?” he demanded.

“By saying you’d take care of me andthe baby.”

“If,” he stressed. “Ifit came to that.”

“That’s a rotten thing to say,” I groused.

He blinked. “Are you—you’re not serious?”

“Of course, I’m serious! You can’t say something sweet like that to a woman you’re expiration dating.”

“I can’t? I’m so damn confused.”

I climbed off him, careful not to knee him in his delicate area. My feet hit the floor and I looked around for my underwear. I found them and hastily pulled them on.

“You’re not leaving this room,” he growled. “We’re finishing this conversation.”

“Nope. No way. I’m not staying trapped in here with you.”

“Trapped in here with me? It’s not like the door is barricaded.”

“Tank,” I muttered. “Where’s my tank?”

“Sutton, stop.” It was his turn to get up.

“No. Stay where you are.” I put out a hand. “I can’t think when you look like that.”

“Look like what?”

“Naked and tattooed.”

A low rumble escaped his mouth, and it took me a moment to realize he was laughing. Outright laughing.

“You think this is funny,” I accused.

“Well, yeah. I do actually.”
