He held up his index finger with a keyring dangling from it. “Not when I have the key.”

“You may have the key, but you have no right to come in here when we’re not home.”

“You were home,” he countered.

“I was in theshower!”

“I needed to talk to you.”

“Talk to me?” I shrieked. “You scared the hell out of me!”

His eyes cast down.

“My mother will be home any minute and kill me if she finds you in here.”

“Would finding me in herereallybe that bad?”

I cocked my head. “Your reputation precedes you.”

His lips twisted in contemplation.

“I’m serious, Seren. You need to leave.”

He stood up. His height, mixed with the knowledge that I wore solely a towel, made the room feel smaller and the walls feel as though they were about to close in around us. “I wanted to make things right between us.”

“There’s no us.”

He stepped closer.

I moved back until the wall behind me stopped me.

“I want there to be.”

“You don’t know what you want.”

He moved closer, his chest pressing against me and caging me to the wall. “I want you.”

My mind spun. I didn’t know what was up or down when it came to Seren. One minute he seemed like there may be redemption in him after all, and then the next he was acting crazy. “Rightnowyou do. What about tomorrow at school? What about when Kiki shoves her tongue down your throat? Will you then?”

His eyes drifted from mine.

I scoffed as I pushed at his chest, causing him to step back from me. “I can’t keep up with you. And, after yesterday, I don’t want to.”

He met my gaze, and regret hung heavy in his eyes. “That’s probably best. I’m fucked up, Grace. A lot’s happened since my dad died. Stuff I don’t talk to anyone about.”

“Then see a psychiatrist.”

His eyes narrowed and the cold Seren appeared. “That’s harsh.”

I scoffed. “Kind of ironic coming from you.” When he didn’t respond, I huffed my frustration. “What do you want from me?”

“I want to know you, Grace.”

“Why?” I asked, truly perplexed by his infatuation with me.

“Because despite how it may seem, we’re more alike than you think.”

Right.
