“It’s notyouthat I’m worried about.”

“Love you,” I said, twisting away from her and hurrying out of the apartment.

I climbed the steps, careful not to misstep in my sparkly high heels. I pulled in a deep breath before opening the door. I stepped outside and froze when I hit the driveway. Seren stood there with a huge bouquet of flowers in his hand. His lips pulled into a smile as I drank in his dark suit and the black tie that brought out his gorgeous green eyes.

Seren

Holy fuck.

I was staring and I didn’t even care. I hadn’t expected to lose all track of space and time, but Grace all dressed up sucked the air right out of my lungs.

“Hi,” she said, moving toward me. She lifted her hand to my cheek, her thumb brushing gently over the bruise under my left eye. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” I couldn’t say the same for the douchebag who deserved getting his face beat in. I lifted the flowers. “These are for you.”

She took them from my hand and brought them to her nose. “Thank you. They’re beautiful.”

“You’re beautiful,” I said, causing a slight blush to creep into her cheeks. It might’ve sounded like a line, but it was the fucking truth.

“Can I get a picture?”

We both turned to find Sawyer standing in the doorway, his big dopey grin stretching from ear to ear.

“Sure,” Grace said before I could tell him to fuck off.

He took the flowers from her hand and placed them on the nearby bench as Grace slipped her arm around my waist and leaned against me. Another girl would’ve pressed herself to my side and given one of those #CouplesGoals poses. But Grace just wasn’t that type of girl.

“Smile,” Sawyer prompted as he clicked more than one picture.

I wanted to tell him to knock it off, but I couldn’t bring myself to let Grace move away from me, especially when her sweet fruity scent had wrapped itself around me, holding me prisoner.

“Okay,” I finally said, trying to keep the growl from my voice.

Sawyer lowered his phone.

“Send me the pictures,” I said.

He smiled, and I knew it was because as much as I hated my picture being taken, I wanted the pictures of me and Grace.Yes, little brother. I have a soul after all.

“Have fun,” Sawyer called as he walked back inside.

I looked at Grace. “You ready?”

She nodded, her eyes all hopeful and excited.

I hoped she wasn’t disappointed with our change in plans. I slipped my hand into hers and walked her down the path toward the back lawn. I noticed her glance over her shoulder, wondering why we weren’t leaving yet. But in true Grace fashion, she didn’t ask.

“You weren’t in school today,” she said.

“I got suspended for the fight.”

“I kinda heard that,” she said. “Whydidyou fight that guy?”

“He posted the video of you. I told him to take it down and delete it. He refused, so I lost my shit.”

“You didn’t have to do that for me.”

“Of course I did,” I said. “What else did you hear?” I asked.
