“You didn’t have to,” she said.

“Yes, I did.”

Her phone buzzed in my hand. I recognized the number and answered it. “Hey.”

Grace

I lay there, listening to Seren’s side of the phone conversation. He shared everything with the person on the other end.

“We can’t get the police involved until we have solid evidence,” Seren explained. “I’ll let you know when the time is right…Just do me a solid and catch up with Sawyer and Saint…I don’t know. Probably at the courts. Be sure they’re nowhere near their phones then have them call this number from your phone...I owe you one.” He ended the call.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

He put my phone down on the desk and rolled over, wrapping his arms around me. “We’re waiting on Sawyer and Saint to call.”

“And?”

“And, that’s it. For now.”

“Are you at all worried about how Saint will react?”

He chuckled. “Because he’s crazier than me?”

“Kind of.”

“Nah. He’ll do what I say.”

We both fell silent.

“Grace?” he eventually said.

“Yeah?”

“I need you to eat.”

I shut my eyes, knowing I looked terrible. “I do eat. Keeping it down is another story.”

He huffed, but I knew his anger wasn’t with me. It was with Martine who’d caused all of this. “I promise you. I’m gonna make sure he gets what’s coming to him. And no one else is gonna get hurt.”

“How can you be sure?” I asked.

“I’m Seren Grayson,” he said, but it didn’t hold the humor it once had. “You’re sure he has cameras and mics everywhere on the property?”

“Even in the treehouse. He played us…you know… when we were alone…on prom night,” I said.

Rage flared in his eyes. “What?”

“He wouldn’t turn it off as much as I begged him to.”

“I’ll kill him,” he gritted out.

“Killing him would be too kind,” I assured him. “He needs to suffer.”

“Oh, I plan on it.”

We sat in a campus café that afternoon after Seren bought his own prepaid phone. I didn’t know how to tell him I wasn’t hungry for lunch after he’d had a breakfast delivered that could feed ten, so I picked away at the sandwich he’d bought me.
