"We would all be there; Parc, your mate would be in no danger." Parc was not on board not at all, but Danny was clearly considering the plan. Then Cross began to backtrack, having noticed Parc's reaction. "You're right, Parc, that is too much to ask. I'm sorry." But the plan was out there, and Danny decided he liked it.

"No, it's a good plan." Danny erupted, stopping all the side talk. "I'll do it." He then fixed Parc with a derisive stare that told him to back down. Parc could not challenge him without appearing to not trust his ability to take care of himself and his standing as an officer. He was fucked, and not in a good way. Cross whispered another apology to his Beta.

Parc and the others set up the meeting to take place in an area that would appear neutral to Sgt. Jeffers but would also allow them to protect Danny. They decided upon Riverside Park. It was mostly desolate, overgrown, and rather bleak, but it had plenty of cover and distance from town, so privacy was secured.

Danny made his call to the Sergeant and implied that he thought he was in danger and referenced the attack at his home. He asked to meet, and Jeffers was more than willing to do so. Jeffers told Danny to stay hidden and talk to no one and that he would come to get him and take him somewhere safe.

Cross called in everyone except Cade, who was up north at his forest retreat with his mate. They were all in position waiting with Danny situated in the small, dilapidated outbuilding that had, at one time, been used for larger gatherings. He leaned against the wall facing the doorway.

Parc was off to his side, hidden behind a half wall that once led out to the grilling area. He had a full view of his mate and could reach him easily if things went south. Although, he still wasn’t happy with this setup, and everybody knew it. Using his mate as bait went against everything in his heart, but he could not make demands. His mate was an adult and secure in his abilities to succeed. He wanted to be the one to bring Jeffers down, and Parc could not deny him that. "He'll be here soon. Are you ready?" Parc asked him.

"Ready as I'll ever be. I'd be more comfortable if we were doing this by the book with police backup, but I understand why that cannot be." Danny lamented.

"Jeffers is working for the Dominion Coven, and he and his partner Vic, the vampire, tried to have us killed. This isn't something the station is prepared to deal with," Parc responded. "This is my world Danny, and it is violent and brutal. We live by different laws and expectations."

“And your secrecy is vital to your survival. I understand I will never repeat what I’ve seen and heard.” Danny turned to him with a charming smile. "Besides, who would believe me.”

"True." Parc returned his smile. The car carrying Jeffers pulled into the park, and he got out, looked around, and started toward the outbuilding where Danny told him he'd be hiding. It was made clear fairly quickly that he was not alone as a group of vampires were taken out by Zeke and Ames as they tried to enter from the River entrance of the park.

This entrance would have brought them in behind the outbuilding. Another was making their way from the side and would meet with Jeffers in a few steps. Everyone held back and watched the two men approach the door of the outbuilding.

“Danny!” Jeffers called from just outside the doorway. “Danny, are you there?” He called again. Parc signaled for Danny to stay quiet and bring them inside. Finally, Jeffers looked at his companion, and they both entered the structure looking around for signs of Danny.

"He's not here, Jeffers." The man beside him scoffed. Parc had scented him as soon as he cleared the doorway; he was a vampire but not the sort you hire from the Neon. This man had some power and class and didn't look pleased to be there with Jeffers.

"He'll be here; he trusts me," Jeffers assured.

“Too bad for him.” The guy shot back.

"I'm here, Sergeant; why did you bring him? I know that he is a vampire, and I know that you're working with the coven out of Columbus. Why did you have to resort to murder? Why do you want me dead, sir?" That brought the man up short, obviously not expecting to be confronted. "Yeah, I know it's you that's been making all the nuisance calls on the business on the strip, all the businesses owned by paranormals. How much is Anton Grasse paying you, sir? How much is he paying you to kill?”

The vampire started to chuckle and glanced over at Jeffers, waiting for whatever his response was going to be, but he was struck silent by the accusations Danny was making to his face. Parc loved his mate and was proud of how good he was at his job.

"You and your boyfriend, the wolf shifter, threatened his operation, and he's making very good money from my Master." The vampire answered Danny's question, and finally, Jeffers shook out of his shock.

“Are you going to try and kill me, sir?” Danny continued to be blunt.

"You weren't supposed to find out, but you insisted on getting cozy with the people at Zephyr, and then you raised suspicions about Vic. It wasn't personal, but I was contracted to do a job, so you and Parc Kingsley have to go. This was supposed to be a smooth transition between the Zephyr people out and Dominion in." Jeffers was getting his swagger back and took a few steps toward Danny, who was now standing ready for the assault. Parc listened and waited.

Jeffers pulled out his gun and pointed it at Danny. "We can do this painlessly, or I can make you suffer; which do you prefer."

"I prefer that you suffer." With that, Danny pulled his gun and shot Jeffers hitting him in the shoulder as Danny dove behind a stack of boxes. That signaled Parc to make himself known as he joined the shootout taking place in the old outbuilding. He managed to make his way over to where Danny was hunkered down. The shot brought the others moving in, and they started to surround the building.

"Where are the others?" Jeffers screamed at the man with him, who simply shook his head and took in his options realizing that the day had not turned out as planned.

"Stay here," Parc said and began moving toward the other end of the building toward Jeffers and his companion.

"Give yourself up, Jeffers; you're not getting out of here," Danny yelled to him but received no response other than another shot, one single gunshot, and then nothing.

Parc listened, and then he smelled the fresh scent of blood, plenty of blood, and death. He remained silent and listened for a few minutes before standing up and calling to Danny, who came out from behind the wooden boxes and approached him. "What's going on."

They heard a scuffle outside, and then Cross called out to them. "The vampire escaped." Danny and Parc headed for the door, and there lying on his side was Jeffers. He had a gunshot to the side of his head just above the ear. He was dead. Cross came to stand with them and bent to check on the Sergeant.

“His friend killed him and then vanished.” He said a little put out that they let the vampire get away.

“Why?” Danny didn’t understand.

“He was becoming a problem for them, and Dominion always cleans up their mess," Cross said and then added. "I doubt Vic still walks the earth. They never leave loose ends."
