“Why not?”

“It’s not my style.”

“That may be your problem, Langston.”

Langston’s brows rose along with his eyes. “Excuse me?”

“How you’ve conducted your relationships has resulted in loss, pain, heartbreak. Maybe it’s time you switch it up.”

Langston’s deep laughter made Malcolm’s lips twitch. “What’s so funny?”

“So your advice is to call up Lisa, tell her—”

“You can tell her whatever you like. It doesn’t have to be instantly about sex. Feel her out. See if she’s giving you interest. If not, maybe it’s not Lisa you need. However, my advice is to change your course. Doing the same things and expecting different results is the definition of—”

“Insanity.”

Malcolm smiled, as if delighted that Langston agreed with him. “Exactly.”

Langston’s gaze turned to glance out of the window. The office fell silent for a few minutes, then he returned his eyes to Malcolm.

Rising to his feet, Langston held out a hand, which Malcolm accepted, also rising.

“Thank you for seeing me on short notice, Mr. Jones.”

“No problem. Our regular schedule picks up next week. I’ll see you then.”

Langston nodded and left Jones Therapy Center.

Lisa

“Ah!”

Lisa swung her tennis racket, connecting with the ball. It flew back to Tina, but Tina slammed the ball back to Lisa. Lisa’s eyes followed its trajectory as it sailed toward her. Her competitive instincts kicked in, and she sprinted across the court, her curvy body moving with grace and precision.

Tina was a skilled opponent, but Lisa was determined to come out on top.

She raised her racket and struck it with perfect timing. The sound of the impact echoed around the court, followed by a satisfied grunt as the ball flew past Tina and smacked against the back wall.

“Yes!”

Lisa felt a rush of adrenaline as she scored the point, her heart pounding with excitement. She knew that Tina wouldn’t give up quickly, so she needed to focus and keep up her momentum if she wanted to win.

The two women continued playing, each trying to outdo the other with speed and accuracy. Sweat beaded on their foreheads as they raced back and forth across the court, their breaths coming in short gasps.

As they played, Lisa found herself becoming distracted as she’d done earlier when they were at breakfast. Tina had noticed, but Lisa brushed it off and changed the subject.

Truth be told, Lisa’s thoughts seemed to lock in on one person during odd times of the day. She could be in the middle of rehearsal, and Langston Jamal Clark would enter her mind.

She shook her head, trying to focus on the game. But as she raised her racket to hit the ball again, her mind wandered to Langston’s chiseled jawline and piercing brown eyes. She couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to feel his strong arms around her, pulling her close.

More than that, a sexual fantasy had assailed her since he’d come knocking on her door one night after they’d left Club Atlas.

“Langston?”Lisa frowned and peered outside her front door, looking both ways. “Is everything okay? Did you forget something?”

They’d been celebrating the wins of their friends and families in a dance competition into the late-night hour.
