I found out from Pauline that Claire was making quiet plans to travel. The former thought I was making those plans with Claire, so she confronted me that morning to talk to me.

"You're planning to elope with Claire, aren't you?"

Initially, I was dumbstruck. Elope? What did she mean? Elope was a word I only heard in movies, and I wasn't a big fan.

"No, of course not!" I said, slightly confused. That was when she started to tell me she found a few papers indicating that Claire was planning to travel. I felt betrayed.

I was heartbroken. I met Claire that evening and asked her about what her aunt said. Sadly, she did not deny it. It was either she was ready to face my confrontation about the issue or she already knew her aunt would spill the beans.

"Why? What did I do?" I asked, sad.

"Nothing, baby. I just needed some time to be alone and think correctly about our situation."

"What?? Do you have to travel to other countries to do that? " I was mad at her. It was so hard not to be, after realizing that she was willing to leave me behind.

"I'm sorry, Jonah. I just can't deal right now. I love you so much but there are so many reasons why we can't be together. There are too many resistances. You're too wonderful to be with someone unworthy of you. I'm not enough, I think."

It was getting clearer. I finally got the reason she was behaving weirdly all that time. She seemed to be fed up, and it hurts to know that.

I stormed out of her presence that evening. I knew a lot would be ruined if I told her a little bit of what I thought. But I decided it was better to let my anger die down a bit.

Later that evening, I heard a knock on my door. It was Claire, and it was a surprise because she hadn't visited me in weeks. I hoped it would bring good tidings to us, as that was all I cared about.

"Jonah. I'm sorry for not telling you. It's just that your family does not like me very much. They insulted me!"

"What? When?" I was shocked to hear it.

"Before they visited you. I was at home and they came to blast me! I was so embarrassed that day. Don't tell me you don't know about that."

"I did not. I swear it. I know they don't approve of you though. They attempted to talk to me that day, but I refused them outrightly. I never even heard about all of this. I'm sorry they made you go through that, okay?"

"Yes, babe."

I was angry. Anger was an understatement compared to what I felt. Why would they even go to Claire's place before seeing me? They had a lot of confidence to do that, and what's worse? They didn't even tell me!

The first person I called after that was Andy. I asked for another meeting so that we could all talk face-to-face. I deserved an explanation, and I would get it no matter what.

Andy was so interested in the meeting. I didn't tell him what the topic of contention was. That way, I was likely to solve all our immediate problems in that regard. I only hoped they would be strong enough to listen to me say a real piece of my mind. If they were not, then it was going to be a problem.

"It's not just your family, Jonah. Everyone in my family blames me for all that happened. They seem to think of a slut or something like that. I wish it didn't have to be this way."

I watched her pour some tea into her cup and wished I had some of that. She offered me a cup of tea, and I drank it, thinking of the terrible things I'd do to anybody who did anything bad to her.

"We can fix this," I said and drew her close for a kiss. She hesitated but kissed me regardless. I hated that she felt sad about our relationship, and I was willing to fix it.

After I left her place that afternoon, I got back home to see my son who was back from school. He had finally been given his award for the most outstanding student as it had to be engraved on his award.

He was beaming with smiles initially, but after he saw me, he even got happier.

"Here, Dad. This is the award. It's beautiful, isn't it?"

"Yes, son. It is."

Although I didn't sound like it, I was in awe of the award. It was so beautiful and was made off of fine wood which was painted beautifully. It was fitting for a king. It was fitting for Will.

I thought about the family members that night, and I told Will they were coming for a meeting. He didn't seem to be looking forward to it. He didn't like Andrew that much either.

"Dad. I hope it's all good. You don't sound relaxed and assured like you usually do. If there is something bad happening, you can let me know. I'm interested in knowing Dad."
