The game started well. Will's team started very well and the latter scored a few points for the team. Each time he dunked on the other team, we would be his biggest cheerers. At a point, I even felt like a cheerleader.

Soon, the other team picked up the pace and attacked Will's team aggressively, scoring massive points to get ahead of Will's team again.

The power switched with time. Will's team was not people to back down, and they fought back hard enough to get back in the game. After a while, both teams seemed tired and went in for a quick rest. At the time, Will's team was losing slightly with two points.

Will walked over to where we sat, panting heavily while Jonah patted his back and encouraged him.

"Dad. Can we win?" Will asked his father, probably looking for some positivity.

"If you play to deserve it," Jonah replied simply, and that was all Will needed. The alarm sounded and soon, they started playing again.

This time, Will played with more zest and will to win. He had a renewed vigor and motivation that moved even me.

He racked up a few more points, but close to the end of the match, he was fouled by an opposing player and he sustained an injury. Jonah was devastated to see Will injured.

Jonah got up and shouted at the referees to fix up as Will got helped out by a few men. His team's morale seemed to drop off a bit, and they lost the game eventually by a tight margin.

When they lost, Will just sat there, staring at them in pain as they lifted their trophy. I could not blame Will for feeling so sad. I felt sad and hollow too, and Will was injured too. He was so close. He had fought with all he had, but he had lost.

"Don't worry, Dad. This is not going to be my first loss and I will have wins too. The truth is the other team somehow played better today. They sure deserve it."

He was right. The other team deserved to win, just like Will's team, the LA Giants did. They were so good and had very good precision when it came to shooting.

After that day, I finally understood why Will and his father had so much passion for winning together. Winning was a great feeling, just like losing was the exact opposite.

I made Will his favorite food that evening. I did it, hoping it would cheer him up as he looked so sad for the rest of the day. I knew he could not live with the feeling that he was so close, yet so far away.

He limped around the house, and finally went to check on Emily. I watched him talking to Emily about the game and I wondered if she too, could understand him. I mean, even Will believed that she could hear him to be telling her all that without a problem.

We grew more as a family with time. Jonah was so busy making plans for our wedding and a date was imminent. I feel so excited to finally get married to Jonah. He is the man of my dreams.

I got my stature back with time. I had gone through a lot of work, dieting, and discipline to get back to my old self. The only difference after it all was that my cheeks remained fatter after I got back to normal.

Pauline was also a huge lover of Emily. Sometimes, she would visit, place Emily on her lap and start giving her advice that the latter could not even understand. It was quite amusing to watch, especially with Emily staring at her as if she understood.

Emily grew fast and became more beautiful as time went on. We were so close and our mother-daughter relationship was something nobody could ever understand.

People said she grew to look like me more as time went on. As her facial features matured, it soon became clear who she looked like amongst us, her parents.

"She is so beautiful," Jonah said one day as we sat in the park. Will and Emily were a little distance away from us and the former was trying to teach his sister how to stand.

"It's so amusing to watch. Does Will genuinely think she will be able to stand by doing that to her?" I asked Jonah.

"Allow him. He's doing the right thing first, which is letting her believe she can do it. If Emily is going to be walking soon, she has to believe that she can!"

Jonah was right, and although I did believe he was, I still wished I was the one helping Emily through her first steps as a human being.

Chapter Twenty-Six

Jonah

Emilystartedwalkingonemorning and nobody expected anything. I just woke up one day and saw her walking around the room. Will was not there, so I knew he would be glad when he saw it.

I woke Claire up to see her daughter, and she screamed in delight once she realized what was happening. I called Will to see his sister, and soon, I heard a knock on the door.

Will was already dressed up for school when he entered the house. When he found Emily, he ran over to her in joy and lifted her in the air to celebrate.

"Don't you think this calls for a little celebration? I know we don't have to celebrate such a normal thing in a person's life but I celebrated when Will started walking. I don't see why I can't do the same for Emily," I said.
