“Oh, he is not the craziest one...”

“What do you think?” insisted Eden.

“I think we might need to call the girls to ask if they want to work an extra shift tonight.”

Jack, who had just understood what they were talking about, suddenly went white.

“...You bitches can’t be serious!”

“Why not?” smiled Rose, already biting her index finger. “I love that idea, darling. We’re going to sell him some nice, yummy cookies....”

“See?” smiled Loir, very proud. “I knew I had a good idea.”

Meanwhile, Eden’s eyes went to Dante, who had lost his smile. This was one crazy idea indeed... and Eden was going to be the main bait.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

“I hate it.”

Eden looked up from the belt of the outfit she was struggling to put on. Dante was standing there, arms crossed, with a sullen look. She shrugged and looked down again to try and figure out how to secure the leather belt around her kimono-inspired dress. It was very flashy indeed.

Still, Eden had to admit Rose had done an impressive job; a few minutes and a dozen calls later, she found out the Yakuza’s tastes and secured entries for them as escorts for some of his lieutenants. Sure enough, her extensive repertoire had been quite useful for this plan... Now, Eden only had to put on this nightmarish outfit Jack had given to her. By itself, the red and yellow dress was quite pretty, and easy to move around in, but she had never worn anything like it; she was used to more vintage dresses...

“You don’t have to go,” Dante insisted.

Eden let out a long sigh this time. He had voiced that he was against this plan only because she was part of it, but now, she was more annoyed by his possessive attitude than anything.

“You’re the one who wanted to take down the Snake and said you’d go along with my plan.”

“You hadn’t told me your plan would include you opening your legs to the Japanese.”

“For now, I’m only going to open their doors. Stop whining.”

Although he finally stopped complaining, Dante didn’t get rid of that sullen look of his. They had gone back upstairs, just the two of them, for Eden to change, but she knew he hadn’t ordered for them to be left alone only for him to complain. Rose had stayed downstairs and changed right there, to the pleasure of the handful of Italian men who had stayed behind to “guard” the room. Eden knew there was no need to worry or feel sorry for the redhead; she just loved the attention and had a very limited sense of decency too.

The one Dante wanted no other man to see was Eden. So, she had gone back upstairs to redo her makeup into a bolder, more feminine look, arranged her blond hair into a high ponytail with some Asian-inspired accessories, and put on that nightmarish dress. Secretly, Eden actually enjoyed this sort of dressing up, as if she was putting on a costume. She wasn’t forgetting the primary goal of all of this, but she liked picking out which accessories to wear, customizing her makeup, and putting on a completely new kind of outfit. What annoyed her, though, was Dante’s eyes on her throughout the whole process. The Tiger wasn’t letting go, not even for one second. He didn’t even blink, as if he was prepared for her to run away at any moment.

“...Stop staring,” she finally said, as she was getting annoyed at the belt again.

“Why?”

“Because it makes me uncomfortable,” she retorted.

“I make you uncomfortable?”

Eden raised her eyes, and sure enough, he had that grin again. He was visibly amused and pleased to know he was annoying her... He stepped forward, and Eden frowned. Slowly, he began walking in her direction, as a feline would silently approach its prey. She didn’t move, but she glared at him as if warning him to stay away.

Of course, Dante ignored that. He walked up to her, slowly raising that tension between them, a wry smile on his lips. His eyes, back to their golden color, were almost glowing. Eden tried to stay calm and not step back. She wasn’t scared, but she knew she had a very limited ability to resist that pull toward him... Sure enough, the Tiger soon found himself dangerously close to her, and the young woman’s heart skipped a beat. Eden was a bit mad at herself. Why couldn’t she resist him? Why did all her defenses suddenly vanish with one glance, one touch of his? How could he have so much power over her when she never let anyone get any?

As if to blow all of her worries away, Dante gently put his hand on her cheek and closed the distance between them for a kiss. Eden didn’t even think twice before letting him do as he wished. Their kiss was incredibly slow, gentle, and chaste. As if he was deliberately torturing her... The pressure of his hand was so faint, she could have backed away, pushed him away anytime she wanted. But Eden didn’t want to. She just wanted to feel her heart beating excitedly, fluttering irrationally, at Dante’s gentle kiss, and get lost in his tenderness. As if she could say no to this, to him. She couldn’t. Something in her heart and her mind had just given up a while ago, and she was holding on to the last strings of resistance to not give in completely, to not let all her secrets be exposed. Eden just wanted to dip into that pleasure a little and tell herself not everything was lost if she could at least keep that mental barrier between them since the physical one had disappeared long ago... The way he was kissing her was so gentle, so smooth, and so pleasurable that it was easy to give in and let herself float away. At times, Dante could be an animal, but he could also be painfully sweet.

“...Do I still make you uncomfortable?” he whispered with a smile against her lips.

This time, Eden frowned and pushed him away. Or she tried. Of course, Dante had decided not to budge and instead captured her hands, interlocking her fingers with his. Eden shivered. She didn’t like this... She didn’t like it when he was so dangerously gentle like this. Dante’s eyes on her had more than their usual naughtiness to them. At times, he looked at her with something, something much deeper and more complicated. Eden took a deep breath, avoiding the eyes she could feel on her.

“...Won’t you let me finish getting ready?” she muttered.

“Look at me.”
