Summer
“I’mpregnant,Lucan.”Myeyes search his, looking for condemnation. Instead, I see shock followed by a spark of what appears to be wonder. He holds my gaze as he slips his hand under my sweatshirt.
“You’re pregnant?”
I nod slowly. “Yes,” I whisper.
“You’re carrying my child?”
“Yes.”
“How far along are you?”
“I-I’m not sure. I just did a home test yesterday.”
“You’re at least six weeks, then. That was the last time we were together. I can’t believe I’m going to be a father.”
“You’re happy?” I can’t read him right now. I’m so torn, so confused. So hurt.
He looks at me closely. “The woman I love has just told me she’s carrying my child. I’m over the moon with joy, baby. Aren’t you happy?”

Something shifts. The swell of emotion suddenly dissipates and my thoughts are crystal clear. “Lucan, of course I forgive you. I love you. Have for a long time now.”
“I’ve been such a fool. Wasted so much time. But no more.”
