I was ready for this conversation to be over before Remi finished her shower. “I don’t know what to tell you. Now, if you buzz that buzzer once more, I’ll call the police. Remi is here with me, and I won’t have her traumatized. Get the fuck away from us!”

I was so angry I was shaking, but I knew I had to get myself under control before my woman was out of the shower. I prayed she didn’t hear any of the exchange. After two minutes, I felt that he wouldn’t buzz up again. Thank God there was a locked door, but how did he get in the gate? It was probably like when he followed the delivery person into my building the last time. I ran a hand through my hair and then poured myself a glass of the wine and downed it, then refilled it and another one for Remi.

She suddenly appeared beside me. “Did I hear voices?” she asked. She ran a hand from my bicep down to my forearm and kissed my shoulder through my shirt. Her touch was gentle and comforting.

I didn’t want to upset her, but I wouldn’t lie to her. “My bio dad showed up to talk to you.”

She gasped. “What?”

“Don’t be scared, honey,” I reassured. “I won’t let him hurt you. We may have to file a protective order. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone. He wants money.”

“Oh,” she rubbed my arm and kissed my shoulder again, looking up at with me with her gorgeous green eyes. “I’m sorry.”

She thought it hurt me that Derrick Ellington only wanted money. “Remi, I don’t want a relationship with him. I don’t feel like the abandoned little boy anymore. My life is great, now. I have you. I’m glad his actions made my mom leave.”

“I know, but I just hate that anything could hurt you.”

I touched her face. “We have everything we need. If I thought he’d go away, I’d throw some money his way, but he’ll just keep coming back. I had to put the hammer down and make him live with his choices.”

“I understand,” she said softly.

I picked up both wine glasses. I handed one to her. She took a sip looking up at me over the rim of the delicate glass. “You know, my dad is not trying to seduce her.”

“What?”

“My dad. The flowers weren’t a romantic gesture toward Bethy,” she said.

She smelled good, the fragrance I bought her was so familiar. I was thankful she turned the conversation back to what we were discussing before her shower. “I know, but who thinks of that?”

“He does,” she said simply, her head tilting sexily to one side. Remi giggled sexily and moved out of my arms. She set her glass down and then walked away to turn on one of the music stations on the cable.

It was the first time since she’d come out of the bathroom that I could really look at her from head to toe. She was wearing a sultry, wine-colored negligee in a sheer filmy material trimmed in lace. Matching string bikini panties were visible as were the dusky peaks of her breasts.

I took a big swallow of the wine and set the glass down, reaching for her. “Are you trying to get at my bone?” I teased her. I knew that it would become our thing and that when we were both eighty years old, we’d still be kidding each other about it.

“When I am, you’ll know. Will you dance with me?” A sexy smile slid across her mouth and her eyes sparkled in the candlelight. She reached for both my hands and pulled me into the center of the living room.

“As long as I can touch you, I’m happy,” I said seriously. The promise of what was ahead aroused me even more. My voice was husky and low.

The candlelight glowed on her silky skin that was one hundred percent visible through the sheer fabric. The dark color just giving a glimpse of the amazing outline of her slim body, and the curve of her breasts. The panties were peeking through, beckoning of their hidden secrets. I itched to get my hands and mouth on her.

She was so beautiful. Her hair was piled on top of her head in a messy bun, her expression soft and alluring, hovering a few feet away. It was torture.

I was feeling hot, and I peeled off my shirt, threw it on the sofa then kicked off my vans. I moved toward her, ready to take her in my arms, press her to me, and kiss her madly.

The channel was a love song channel, and she came into my arms, and slid hers around me, laying her head on my chest. Her bun tickled my chin, so I bent to kiss her shoulder, and I ran my fingers lightly down her backbone. She shivered.

“I’m so glad you can relax tonight, Remi. I really enjoy our alone time. I miss you even if we’re only apart minutes or hours.” I was kissing along the line of her shoulder and along her jaw as I spoke. “I love touching you, kissing you, tasting you. Making love with you is everything.”

“Dylan, I’m so happy.”

“Me, too. Euphoric,” I replied.

“I have you and Rory has a good chance for a cure. I’m still hoping we’ll get to adopt her.”

“Yes. I love Rory,” I said. “You know that.”

I doubted that the Wagner family would give her up, but I knew we’d be part of Rory’s life forever. We could add them to our family vacations, the way our two families had always done. I’d make sure that we could take Rory to the ranch every summer, and if her grandparents were raising her, that she never went without. At the very least, maybe she could live with us part time.
