“Do you want to go for a last walk on the beach?”

“Mmmm,” I said. He took my hand and our fingers threaded together as we headed toward the open-air door achieved by the glass walls that folded back. There were fountains at three points in the lobby and the sound of the trickling water echoed through the space with high ceilings. The floor was a mosaic of terracotta and aquamarine-colored tiles.

“It’s been a beautiful trip.”

“Do you want to come back for our honeymoon? Or maybe somewhere we haven’t been? Greece or Bali?

“It doesn’t matter to me. We could go to my closet as long as we’re together. Thank you for inviting me,” I sighed, resting my head on Dylan’s shoulder as we walked slowly toward the beach.

“It’s been my pleasure. Several times.” I could feel Dylan’s mouth pull into a smile against the top of my head as well as I heard amusement in his tone.

His lips on me; on my face, my mouth, my head, and every part of my skin had been something I’d come to adore. He’d made me come more than once with his mouth and it was like nothing I’d ever experienced. I felt compelled to let him know and felt safe in doing so.

“As well as mine. You’re an amazing lover. I’ve never felt so fulfilled. I can’t get enough.”

I was rewarded with another kiss like the one before.

“It’s the same for me,” Dylan said, closing his eyes, his tone reverent. “I told you; it’s love. I never want anyone to touch you again,” he admitted.

“Don’t worry.” I smiled. “As if that is even possible. I feel the same way about you.”

“You’ve ruined me for anyone else. I never want to touch anyone but you.”

I sucked in a deep breath, feeling it fill my lungs to capacity. He made me so happy.

“I never dared to hope we’d end up together, or that it would be so incredible.”

The warm breeze blew in the open wall and mixed with the cool air conditioning inside as we approached the edge of the lobby. I was wearing another sundress. This time made of filmy white gauze, with spaghetti straps and a flowy skirt that ended mid-calf. Dylan was wearing a short-sleeved button-down and navy-blue shorts.

“I still don’t understand why you wanted to keep the proposal from your parents,” he said. “I thought you’d tell Teagan, at least.”

“I just don’t want to share you yet. Everyone will be calling me, and I’d just like to have it between us for a while. We have years to let the family intrude on us.” I huffed out a short laugh. “Right?”

“Yes. Also, I think we need to concentrate on Rory’s health and the search until we find her family.”

Our sandaled feet hit the sand and we made our way toward the open-air bar we’d been at the first night on the island. I squeezed his hand. “It means so much to hear you say that.”

He didn’t respond as we made our way outside and up to the bar. “Should we just have one drink?”

“Yes, and one chaise lounge,” I replied.

“I wish we could sleep out here,” Dylan responded before ordering a Blue Hawaii for me and a margarita on the rocks with salt for himself. I’d fallen in love with the pineapple and blue curacao drink at lunch on the previous Friday after Dylan’s morning practice. We’d gone downtown to meander among the shops and found a quaint little restaurant. The city was beautiful, the island lush and the people so gracious and friendly. I loved that the ocean and the Blue Mountains were in such proximity.

I had many happy memories of our time here, and I’d managed to keep my worry about Rory to a minimum. I wanted to call her but knew that she’d only cry that I wasn’t there and that would have been selfish of me. I called the nurse’s station once, but Marcia wasn’t working, and they wouldn’t tell me very much. I hated that I had no right to know anything or even ask about her condition. All they would say was that she was sleeping. Nothing else. It was so frustrating! I planned on stopping by the hospital on my way home from the airport to check on her.

“That would be nice, and very romantic,” I agreed. I was pleased he was thinking of little ways we could be together. “I’m a lucky girl.” I smiled as he handed me my drink and we walked a few yards to one of the chaise lounges a good distance away from the bar. I sat down and then scooted over. “One chair, remember.”

His gaze was intense as he sat down next to me. I had my legs stretched out, but he sat on one side next to my thighs. “I wish we didn’t have the drinks so I could lay next to you.”

“Drink fast,” I answered, a gentle smile gracing my mouth. I couldn’t stop looking at him. The firelight from the closest tiki torch turned his sandy hair to gold and cast light and shadow on the muscles of his arms. His broad shoulders and strong back stretched his shirt as he leaned hallway over me, one elbow resting on the cushion on the hip opposite side of me.

His eyes were serious. “I’m going to miss you. It’s going to suck, so bad.”

I inhaled and then sipped at the delicious blue drink I was holding. “It is. When will you move to Memphis?” I couldn’t help asking because it was what my heart wanted.

“As soon as I can. I’m going to keep my apartment, so I have a place to stay while I’m in KC for practice. All I really need to bring is half of my clothes. I’ll just take back an empty suitcase a few times and leave the clothes I bring there. It will be easy. But don’t worry about anything. Except Rory. How soon will you know if there is a DNA match for her?”

“I don’t know. They’re constantly looking through the donor bank, but as far as finding her family, I’m not sure. Google says three to five business days for Ancestry.com.” I huffed out a short laugh.
