“Greer Savage.”

“I know . . . I’m in trouble.”

“You’re certain you’re not hurt?”

“I’m not. I promise.”

“Because if you lie about that . . .” he warned.

“I’m not lying. I promise.”

He took in a deep breath and let it out. “You are to stay in the house until I get home, understand? And if anything at all happens, call me. Am I understood?”

“Yes, Daddy.”

“And we will discuss this further once I get home.”

Her bottom clenched at his tone. She hadn’t had a proper spanking yet. And she was slightly worried. And more than a bit intrigued.

“You’re sure you’re all right?” he asked in a softer voice. “Did this asshole scare you?”

“A bit,” she admitted. “I’m glad Bonnie and Titus were there.”

“Me too. I owe them.”

“There’s something else . . . I’ll tell you later, though.”

No doubt he had to get back to work.

“Little girl . . .”

“It’s nothing important.”

“Tell me.”

“I thought I saw Cash talking to Titus.”

He was silent for a moment. “That is strange. I can look into Titus and Bonnie.”

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”

“Why not?”

“They just . . . I don’t know . . . I don’t think they’d like that. And they haven’t done anything wrong. Cash is allowed to have friends.”

That she knew nothing about. Because he’d disappeared for all those years.

She could feel a tension headache forming.

“You could call Cash,” he suggested.

“I could.” But she wouldn’t. Because she was hurt that he wasn’t trying harder to see her. She’d traveled all this way and he was always too busy.

She pinched the top of her nose.

“Go rest, baby girl. Give Wally a hug. Take a nap or watch a cartoon. No scary movies, though.”

“Yes, Daddy.” Take a nap? She had way too much to do to take a nap. Although, if she got to wear those ladybug pajamas that arrived yesterday . . .
