“So he’s been asking that Duke and I go on a trip with them. I mean . . . it could be fun.”

“Fun? How could it be fun?” Duke asked. “Last time he talked about it, he was looking at campervans. He wants to go camping. That is not happening. I cannot go camping with the Fox.”

Everyone stared at Duke, shocked.

Reyes cleared his throat. “Right. But maybe Sunny could call him and ask him if he knows anything about this cartel guy, Dante Diaz.”

“I guess so.” Sunny shrugged. “But he’s retired now.”

“Little Rebel, I don’t think that he’ll ever retire,” Duke told her.

Spike cleared his throat. “Should we be discussing this?” His gaze flicked over to Greer.

“Oh.” Sunny’s eyes widened. “I didn’t think. Um, Greer, we were talking about a friend of mine called the Fox. But it would be best if you pretended you didn’t hear any of this.”

“He’s a dangerous man,” Reyes said bluntly.

“But I . . .” Greer glanced up at Hack. “Is this why you asked me if I’d heard of a company called For Fox Sake? Whether they’d sent me any money or paid for anything?”

“Um, yes.”

He was aware of everyone staring at him.

“But why would this Fox have anything to do with me? I don’t know him.”

“No, but he seems to infiltrate people’s lives without them even realizing,” he explained.

“You thought the Fox was involved in something to do with Greer?” Emme asked. “What was it?”

“There were just a few things . . . it’s probably stupid,” he said.

“Tell us,” Duke pressed.

“Fine. Um, like her rent got raised and she was going to have to move, then the landlord changed his mind.”

“I think he wanted to keep me as a tenant,” Greer said. “It’s not a big deal.”

“Was there anything else?” Reyes asked. “That doesn’t seem that much of a red flag.”

“The guy that robbed us turned up dead a few days later,” Hack told them.

“Hey, there’s no way that could have anything to do with me,” she protested. “You’re implying that this Fox person would murder someone because of me?”

Greer didn’t feel sogood. What the heck was going on? What type of person was this Fox?

“Umm,” Sunny said. “Well, likely not since he doesn’t know you. Only as Sav’s sister and I don’t know if he’d get that protective over you because of that. How long ago was the landlord thing?”

“Several years ago. This is crazy. There’s no way that someone who doesn’t know me would interfere in my life. Would kill someone . . . right?”

“Likely not,” Duke said. “But you never know with the Fox.”

What? Seriously?

“Do we tell her about him?” Sunny asked.

“We’ve gone this far,” Reyes said. “Now, she’s got more questions than answers, it might be worse.”

“Baby girl, the Fox is an assassin,” Hack said gently.
