“What?” she asked.
“It’s true. But he’s also a good guy,” Sunny added.
Greer gaped at her. An assassin who was a good guy? Was that even possible?
“He is,” Sunny insisted. “He’s done a lot of good things, protected most of us. He saved Livvy when she was kidnapped. Rescued me from some bad guys. Took Reyes with him to rescue Emme. And he sent money to Millie. He’s a good guy. Just not a conventional one.”
“Okay,” she said faintly. She still wasn’t sure that she believed it, but Sunny seemed very insistent.
“However, I don’t see how he could be the one behind Greer’s landlord keeping the rent lower if it was several years ago,” Sunny said.
“It was just a weird feeling I got,” Hack said. “Greer said when she needed something the universe would always provide.”
“Well, it did,” she insisted. “Like getting my car fixed. I couldn’t afford it, but some kind Samaritan paid the bill.”
“Wait,” Hack said in a low voice. “I thought Sav paid it?”
“Um, no. I asked him and he said it wasn’t him.”
“Someone paid for your car repair bill?” Reyes asked. “And you have no idea who?”
“Uh, yes,” she said nervously. “Well, I might have some idea. But you’re all going to think I’ve lost my mind.”
“Little girl, have you been keeping something from me?” Hack asked in a low growl.
Uh-oh.
Seemed like she might be in a tiny bit of trouble.
“Uh, well, here’s the thing. There’s another reason I came here other than to see Cash.”
Who she’d barely even seen.
“I was starting to have this weird feeling that I might possibly have a kind of stalker.”

The silence in the room made her cringe.
Hmm. She probably should have expected this reaction.
“So, um, someone say something?”
“You have a stalker?” Hack whispered. He turned her on his lap so she was facing him. “A. Stalker.”
“Um, yep.”
“A stalker?”
“Yep. A stalker,” she repeated. What was wrong with him? Why did he keep saying that?
“A stalker.”
“Yes. Are you okay?” she asked in concern.
“Sure. Of course I’m okay. My girlfriend just told me that she has a stalker. But sure . . . I’m okay. No issues here.”
“That’s good, because you kind of have a muscle tic going on right here.” She pointed at the corner of his eye.
