But this was Hack. And the warmth of his hand soon started making her warm up from the inside out.

“I’m all right, Daddy.”

“My brave girl. Remember, it’s a count of twenty.”

The first few were always the hardest. By the time the sixth smack landed, she was kicking her feet and wishing like heck that she’d told him what was going on.

By the time he got to number ten, she was ready for it to be over. Sobs broke free as he kept going, tears running down her cheeks. She lost track of the number of smacks. Her bottom was a hot, flaming mess and she was exhausted. She lay on his lap, crying, as she waited for him to finish.

Smack! Smack!

“That’s it. All done,” he told her, sounding as relieved as she felt. Which was odd.

He rubbed her back as she cried.

“Daddy?” she asked when she calmed down a bit.

“Yes, my baby?”

“Are you going to give me snuggles?”

“In a moment. First, I want you to think for a while about what you did wrong.”

Crap.

Hack couldn’t believe that she’d tried to protect him from a spider tonight. He was meant to do the protecting.

“Have you thought about what you did?”

“Yes, Daddy. I have! I’m sorry.”

“And are you going to keep anything from me again?”

“No, Daddy.”

“Who protects you?”

“You do, Daddy. I really am sorry.”

“Good girl. Then it’s snuggle time.”

“Yes! The bestest time of the day.”

She was so darn cute. And sexy.

He fixed her clothing, then he turned her over and sat on the bed with her on his lap.

“I have a question.”

“Tell me,” he said.

“When you were in the bathroom at the hotel and you yelled out . . . were you . . . um . . .”

“Spanking the monkey? Shaking hands with the milkman? Polishing the banister? Oh my God. Now, I’m starting to sound like the Fox.”

She giggled, which is what he’d hoped for. “He’s definitely um, unusual.”
