“Yes?” she whispered.

“Cops raided his place and found a wall of images of women, including you.”

“But I never sent him photos. Oh my God!” She put her hand over her mouth and rushed off to the bathroom.

“Ink, I have to go.”

“I find out anything more, I’ll let you know.”

Hack didn’t even end the call before rushing off to help his girl. He held back her hair as she vomited into the toilet. Once she was finished, he flushed the toilet, then set her on the counter and brushed her teeth for her.

“Hey, it’s okay. I won’t let him touch you.”

“I just . . . I was such an idiot. Why did I let him into my life? How did he even find out where I lived? Oh God.” She put her hand over her tummy.

“Shh. It’s all right. It wasn’t your fault.”

She smacked her hand against the counter beneath her. “Yes, it is! So. Damn. Stupid.”

“Stop. No,” he said sternly as he grabbed her hands. “You aren’t to hurt yourself.”

“But I was so dumb.”

“Or say bad things about yourself.” He gave her a stern look.

“Fudgsicle!” she cried.

Shit.

He drew her into his arms, holding her tight. Maybe he should get her weighted blanket. She used it during her naps in the nest. But he didn’t want to let go of her. He just held her tight, whispering reassurances to her until she stirred.

He drew back, looking down at her. “Better?”

“I don’t know. A bit. Are you going to spank me, Daddy?”

Shit. Was it what she needed? Or was it a way to cause herself pain? “I will always give you what you need. But I will not allow you to harm yourself. Or for me to harm you. And if I think a spanking will harm you emotionally, then I refuse to do that. Understand me?”

Tears ran down her cheeks. Fuck, he hated when she cried.

“Come here, baby. Come on.” He drew her into his arms and then carried her into the living room. He grabbed his phone and Wally on the way. Then he sat on the sofa with her pressed against him. He just held her until her sobs died and the shaking ceased.

“Baby,” he said in a low, broken voice. Fuck, he hated when she cried.

“I’m all right.” She clasped Wally close.

“Don’t lie to me,” he said firmly.

“I am. I just . . . that threw me. All this time, I didn’t think it was anyone who meant me harm. But I just . . . I don’t understand because I thought my stalker must have been around for years and I only started talking to him a few months ago.”

“He might have been following you well before he got up the nerve to engage with you.”

“Oh, you’re right. I didn’t think of that.”

He reached over to grab a tissue from the side table and cleaned her up.

“I feel like a fool.”

“Stop that. Or you will be writing more lines than the ones you already have to do.”
