“It’s about to get even better.” He turned her so she was facing what had recently been an empty window frame. “Happy Festival of Grace, my rose.”
She gasped. “You added a new window while I was in the Healing Sanctuary!”
“My first two attempts to present you with a Sanctuary Rose were unsuccessful.”
“So you crafted one in stained glass, a perfect white rosebud, eternally on the verge of opening into a magnificent bloom.”
“I hope you will accept this one.”
She pulled him into her arms. “I will keep this one forever.”
He smiled around his fangs and stole a kiss from her lips. She opened her mouth to him and urged his hands to the collar of her own robe. Her pulse pattered under his palms.
He pulled back from their kiss long enough to speak. “No, I don’t want to take it off of you. I want to make love to you while you’re wearing this. Are you feeling adventurous?”
“Oh, yes.”
“Not all worn out from dancing?”
“I feel like I could run a mile. I think it’s your fault for kissing me so much and bewildering me with your mind magery. I heard somewhere Hesperine properties have an energizing effect on mortals.”
He took both her hands in his. “Are you sure you’re feeling entirely well?”
“I am entirely ready for whatever you have in mind tonight.”
He backed her further into the room, past the bedclothes on the floor. “Tonight is a very special night. We should do something we’ve never gotten to do before. Something we’ve always wanted to do.”
When her back came up against one of the chamber’s supporting pillars, she gasped. “Oh, Lio. That column in our shrine…”
He nuzzled her throat where he had taken his first drink from her. “That night, when I got to taste you for the first time…”
Her breath teased his ear. “That was the first time I ever imagined having you inside me.”
He lifted his head, looking at her lovely, flushed face. “So it wasn’t just me.”
She gave her real, hiccuping laughter, grinning. “It took me some time to admit it to myself, of course. But oh, how I wanted more.”
He ran his hands up her thighs and eased them apart, grinding gently against her so she could feel his rhabdos through their robes. “You could feel how much more I wanted that night.”
She rubbed against him in return. “I envisioned you turning me around and pushing me against that pillar and thrusting inside me then and there.”
He groaned, jerking his hips and trapping her more securely between him and the stone.
She twined her arms around his neck. “I was so wet. Just like I am now.”
“I know.”
He covered her lips with his again and slid his tongue deep into her mouth, caressing, thrusting. She went limp against him, clinging to his neck. He swept his hands under her robe and slipped her trousers down, running his hands over her buttocks as he did so. The trousers fell to the floor, and he caressed her bare legs beneath her robe.
She seemed to find her feet, and her hands roamed down his chest, then his belly. His fingers dug into her hips of their own accord as she unfastened the front of his trousers. With a touch of levitation, he lifted her higher in his embrace. She ran her hands through his hair as she wrapped her legs around him.
Entwined against the pillar, they stood poised between the stained glass rosebud on one side and on the other, the open space that awaited a future flower. She didn’t cast a single nervous glance at the gaping window frame or the drop below. She trusted him and the spell she had cast upon this room.
He held her hips in both his hands and looked into her eyes as he thrust his rhabdos inside her. Her lips parting, she gave a sigh. The sound of her pulse pounded in his ears with the rhythm of the dances. He sucked in a breath and flexed his hips. Her eyelids dipped, and she tightened her legs around him.
