He remained like that for a time while we both basked in the pleasant afterglow, perfectly content in each other’s arms.

When we were collected enough for Nikolai to pull me into a sitting position on his lap, he ran a hand through my hair and gazed at me lovingly, face soft and gentle.

Words couldn’t describe how full and content I felt, brimming with a special adoration for my man. It was strange to think that not long prior, we half-hated one another. It was something we laughed about often.

“I love you,” Nikolai hummed, face inches from mine as we simply existed together, forgetting about everything else.

Welcoming the pleased smile on my face, I gently moved my nose against his, letting my words paint his lips. “I love you more.”

Our hearts seemed to beat with the same rhythm at that moment, ready to take on the world no matter what was thrown our way.

Giving in to the temptation, we brought our lips together in a feather-light kiss that made me feel complete. My body came to life each time he touched me, and I could never complain about that.

Catching my breath again as we pulled apart, I glanced over at the gift bag at the end of the couch and gasped. It had completely escaped me. I slid away from Nikolai’s grasp and reached for it, only to hand it back to him with my legs dangling across his lap. He pulled me back into him and rested a hand against my bare thigh.

“Open it,” I murmured, biting the inside of my lip.

Nikolai chuckled and took it from me curiously. He tore open the tape and reached inside, only to pull out a globe-shaped nightlight. It was colored to match the earth’s continents and bodies of water. He turned it around between his fingers, inspecting it closely.

He gave me a funny look and chuckled. “Why a globe?”

“Because it’s a small world,” I answered, feigning a pout that it went over his head. “Did you really not get it?”

“I’m only teasing,” Nikolai hummed, leaning in with his warm grin, and rubbing his nose against mine. “I love it.”

“Good, because I’d be at least a little upset if you didn’t,” I added with a laugh, wrapping my arms around his neck.

Nikolai hooked a finger beneath my chin to prop me up, forcing me to meet his eyes. They were as gorgeous as ever, intoxicating like always. His protective hold on me made my whole body relax into him. “But I want you to always remember it was fate, not chance or luck. We’re meant to be.”

His sincerity sent my mind reeling, warm all over from it.

Nikolai had become much better at expressing his true feelings after he finally admitted how much he loved me, and I couldn’t be happier. He never spared his flowery words, always dipped in adoration and pure tenderness.

He was everything I ever wanted and needed, and it was the easiest thing for me to admit I had fallen completely for one of the Morozov brothers.

My cheeks ached from how hard I smiled, but I didn’t care. I’d smile all day if I could, never letting him question how happy he made me, and how fulfilling it was to be a family at last.

“I’ll never forget,” I whispered, inches away.

The corner of his lip curled up, and Nikolai cut the space between us, melding his mouth with mine. He poured everything he could into it, more sweet than lustful, yet I knew it was only a matter of time before he was ready for another round.

So long as we had the place to ourselves, I didn’t mind.
