“I didn’t buy it for myself, little one. We can do whatever we want with it, on your own time. Six weeks, six months, six years. You can do all the shows you want, rent it out, whatever.”

New, happy tears welled up in my eyes and I wrapped my arms around him. “Why did you do such a wonderful thing? I didn’t get you anything.”

He laughed, holding me tight. “It’s a push present. Mila told me about them. And I don’t get one because I didn’t do any pushing. Get it?”

“You’re crazy, but I love you. And I love this.” My mind was already racing ahead to the first show. Then I heard a tiny cry from inside the car and jumped, whipping around. Mason was yawning and stretching his tiny limbs. “We have to get home. They’re going to be hungry soon.”

“Yes, mama bear,” he said teasingly, but still hurrying to get back in the car.

“I do love the gallery,” I said as we continued on our way home. “But it might be a while before I can do anything with it.”

“We have the entire future ahead of us,” he said, glancing in the rearview mirror at our beautiful sons.

I turned and watched them sleep the whole way home. When we pulled into the parking garage, we both just stared at them in their seats, brimming with love and fascination.

And fear. I didn’t forget that.

I looked at Aleksei to find him smiling at me, the love in his eyes giving me confidence. “First day home,” he said. “Let’s get them up there.”

“Are we really ready for this, Aleksei?” I asked.

He nodded, leaning over to kiss me deeply. “This and so much more, little one.”
