Devon ignored Thanatos, replaying what he had just said in his mind. He remembered creating the portal and then waking up here.

He kissed Persephone.

Covering his face with his hands, Devon let out a loud sigh, wondering how messed up everything was now.

His face shot back up to where Thanatos stood, looking out the window with his hands in his

jeans’ pockets as if waiting patiently for Devon to catch up.

“Is she okay?” he asked, suddenly worried he might have done something to hurt Persephone.

Thanatos turned back to look at him, raising an eyebrow. For once, Thanatos didn’t have his trademark smirk on his face.

“Luckily for you, yes,” he answered and Devon released a breath in relief. He wasn’t sure what he would do if he somehow hurt her.

“Why would it do that?” he asked, troubled.

Thanatos frowned. “It?” He shook his head. “The God… it’s you, Devon.”

He stepped away from the window and toward the bed.

“You’ll do well to remember that. You are ignoring it, and your heart, for some idiotic human reason I cannot fathom. Accept who you are and stop with all the martyr bullshit.”

In a swirl of shadows, Thanatos disappeared, leaving Devon with the feeling that he had spoken a truth.

A truth that Devon needed to hear. Even if it was nothing he wanted to admit.

Persephone had just closed her eyes, exhausted from her tears and finally comfortable in her bed, when a bright flash lit up her room.

“Great…” she murmured, opening her eyes to Hera standing over her bed, hands on hips.

“Great? So, this means we now have everyone’s powers under control?” Hera asked, sarcasm

lacing her voice.

Persephone rolled onto her back, putting her hands over her face.

“I’m working on it, Hera,” she grumbled through her fingers.

She felt Hera’s hands on hers before she pulled them away from Persephone’s face.

“Do you not understand what a God with uncontrolled powers could do to the world? You are

here in the Underworld, but chaos ensues above. The instability is felt around the realm.”

Hera sat next to Persephone on her bed, her face creased with worry.

Her wonderfully short-tempered, sarcastic younger sister was worried. That was not something Persephone had seen in a long time.

Pushing up to her elbows, she looked at Hera squarely, face to face.

“I understand. I do. We just… are having issues getting his powers to even surface, much less gain control of them.”

Hera pushed some hair out of Persephone’s face. “Then you know what needs to be done, sister.”

Persephone threw her arms over her face with a grunt.
