“You’re an idiot.”

“What?”

“Idiot.” Romeo hissed through his teeth.

“Five letters,” Chad mumbled. “A stupid person.”

Romeo strode forward and grabbed Chad by the hips. He pulled them close until their chests bumped, dispelling the air from Chad’s lungs. He clutched Romeo’s shoulders on reflex and stared up into his dark eyes.

A fierce frown tugged at Romeo’s eyebrows. “What did you think the outcome of this conversation would be?”

He jostled Chad when he didn’t answer.

“Chad?”

“I thought you’d either leave me and go in search of someone who could live out that fantasy.”

“What?”

“You have fans. Ones that will probably kill if you asked them to.”

Romeo made a growly sound in the back of his throat and shoved Chad against the car. His unwavering focus felt more like a physical force, pushing Chad’s chin towards his chest to avoid it.

“Or?” Romeo pressed.

Chad glanced at the car, wondering whether he could push Romeo away so he could escape. Romeo’s fingers tightened on his hips in response.

“I thought you’d make me do it regardless of how much I didn’t want to.”

Romeo lifted his other hand slowly, letting it linger in front of Chad’s face before reaching for him.

He stroked Chad’s cheek, and he breathed out against Romeo’s palm. When he took another breath in, he brought in the scent of home.

“I’m so fucking angry with you right now.”

His words were at odds to his touch. Chad bit his lip.

“If I love you.” Romeo repeated. “If…”

“I know you do—”

“Those two letters say otherwise.”

“I just—”

“How dare you put a question mark on my love. How dare you make mefeelit then try to dismiss it with anif. It’s your fault it’s there in the first place, I didn’t know what it was until you, and then you dare doubt it.”

The fingers on his face moved. They roamed and mapped. Romeo touched Chad’s eyebrows, the skin beneath his eyes, his mouth, and his cheeks. “There is no question mark. Do you understand?”

Chad nodded. Concern tugged at Romeo’s features. His eyes were dark, scrutinizing, unimpressed at a mere nod.

“There are no ifs or buts or added conditions to that love. Don’t put them there.”

“I just thought…”

“You thought wrong.”

“When you brought it up, you looked so happy, Romeo.”
