He doesn’t say anything else, just makes certain no one else can stare at what’s his.

“And then what happened?” Greg asks, once I’m covered again.

Talking helps, even as my adrenaline starts to crash, and my hands shake from it. Dashing my tears away, I forget about the blood and wince.

“I broke the zip-ties, stomped on his foot to get him to let go of my hair, grabbed the knife and slit his throat as I turned,” I report quickly.

Greg nods, keeping his eyes on me. “Good, and you’re sure none of this blood is yours?” I shake my head, knowing he’s repeating himself because he’s worried. “Good. We hit Xav at least three times as he was running away, but he jumped into a car that was waiting for him. I only saw the driver for a second, but I believe it was your father, Derek.”

Derek shows no emotion at this, his eyes trained on me. Taking my face in his hands, he tilts my face to look up at him.

“You did amazing,” he murmurs before he kisses me hard. “We need to wash your face off, or we’ll freak out Turner and Roark when you get home.”

I smirk as I nod. I wonder if there’s running water in this place. An agent brings me wipes, and I’m surprised he has some.

“I want to send the deceased agent’s family something,” I say softly, pitching my voice so only Derek, Orion, and Greg can hear me.

“There’s a fund set up for this,” Greg says, shaking his head to shoot me down.

I purse my lips at him in a pout. “I want to add to that fund,” I counter and he stares at me disapprovingly.

“You were fake kidnapped today, and had two deranged people attempt to take you off site. Lennon, I’m surprised you have the energy to fight me after this,” Greg sighs.

I shrug. “I am tired… so you should just say ‘Yes, Lennon’,” I tell him.

Rolling his eyes, he shakes his head. “I don’t think I’ve ever given into anyone that easily. Good luck, kid.”

I roll my eyes, pulling out a wipe. “Can someone make sure I get it all, please?” I ask, starting to wipe my face, and dismissing Greg.

He snorts and turns away, beginning to clean up.

Derek takes the wipe to help, holding my face as he cleans.

“You’re a badass, Lennon O’Reilly,” he says softly as Orion kisses my forehead and turns away to help Greg. “Don’t you ever forget that, okay?”

I stare at Derek’s dark eyes, mesmerized by them as I nod. I’m grateful I get to look at him, experience the shivering not because I’m cold, but because it means I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

“I’m really good at getting blood stains out,” Orion says, walking over with Turner’s sweatshirt. “Is this important to you?”

“Yeah, it’s Turner’s and one of my favorites,” I tell him.

He jerks his chin in acknowledgment, balling it up to place under his arm. Derek pulls me to him, rubbing my arms to warm me up.

“Derek, we’re gonna be a little,” Greg barks, looking over at us. “Why don’t Orion and you take Lennon home, there’s nothing we can’t handle here.”

The agents glance over and nod, and I feel another wave of sadness. I can see in their eyes that they lost a trusted friend and shiver.

“I’m ready to go home,” I agree. This is more excitement than I could ever have wanted. One day, I’ll be happy to live a quiet life without anyone wanting to kidnap or sell me.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

LENNON

Four weeks later

Looking down at my screen, I huff in frustration. I finally am getting medically cleared today to have sex. My stitches dissolved after the first two weeks, and while I’m happy to be able to move easier now, no longer having such a visible memory of my time at Hidden Hills is a relief.
