When he pulls up in front of the airport, I jump up and out of the car, throwing a fifty at him. “Keep the change, man!”

I race inside and then pause. “I don’t know where the hell she’s going,” I groan.

I pick up my phone again and call Harmony. “Do you know where the hell she’s going?”

“She’s heading for here. I think she had some questions that should have already been answered.”

I sigh at the dig. “I know, I know. But you don’t realize how touchy she was at first. I couldn’t tell her the truth. She would have run like hell and never given me even one chance.”

“I get it. Try the gate for LA. She was leaving for here from there.”

I frantically check the schedule on the screen and find it. I skid away and race to the right gate, praying that she’s still there. That I can convince her that I can’t live without her.

I reach the gate and my eyes search until they spot that wild chestnut hair of hers gleaming in the bright light of the airport.

A security guard eyes me carefully. “You alright?”

I nod past him and smile. “I am now.”

He turns and then grins. “I see. Well, have a good flight.”

I take a deep breath. “I sure as hell hope so.”

CHAPTER NINE

RAVEN

Isniffle and try to keep from bursting into tears again. I don’t understand it at all. Why was my picture from the wedding on Roderick’s phone? Why was Harmony talking to him and asking if he found me?

Something isn’t right and if there’s one thing my father taught me how to do, it’s run from anything that seems wrong or makes you feel uncomfortable. I learned at the master’s feet.

I hear a voice calling my name and groan. I swear I’m hearing his voice. Tears sting my eyes again. I sniffle and push it back. I need to get myself under control or they might not let me on the damn plane.

A hand grabs my arm and spins me round. I gasp when I see Roderick standing in front of me. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“I can’t let you go like this, princess. You don’t understand.”

I push him off of me with a strength that I didn’t know that I had. “You’re damn straight I don’t understand! You lied to me!”

He shakes his dark head and his brown eyes are wild, tortured. His dark hair is standing up on end where it looks like he’s dragged his hands through it over and over again. “I didn’t lie to you. I just didn’t tell you the whole story.”

“That’s a tricky way of saying you lied, Rod. You knew who I was at the airport. You knew the whole time who I was! Why didn’t you tell me that you knew me? You’d seen my pictures from the wedding. There’s no way you didn’t know who I was.”

“I knew who you were. I actually knew that you were coming here. That’s the only reason that I made this trek. I wanted to meet you. I almost left you alone so many times because I could tell that you weren’t looking for something permanent and I am. But I just couldn’t walk away from you. From the moment I saw those videos from the wedding, I was fascinated. I asked Harmony all about you and luckily she realized I wasn’t just out for a good time. I fell in love with you from those pictures and videos. I must have watched them a million times and every time I saw something new that made me fall a little more in love with you.”

I hold my hand over my mouth. “It’s always the same. You can’t see different things no matter how many times you watch something.”

He shakes his head. “Nope. The first time I saw the way you threw your head back and laughed. The way you threw your whole self into it. Then the second time I saw the way your green eyes sparkled right before you burst out laughing. The third time I saw you dancing and the way your lush hips swayed to the music, taunting me, teasing me. The fourth time…”

I hold up my hand. “Okay, okay. I get it. You watched me like a damn stalker.”

“No. I watched you like a man desperately in love with a total stranger that he felt closer to than he’s felt to anyone in a long time.”

I shake, sobs rippling at me. “You can’t be serious. You barely know me.”

“I know a lot about you. But the most important thing that I know is that you belong to me. You’re mine. I’m yours.”

“You sound like a psycho, Rod.”
