Taking the seat across from her, I said, “Ah, but I do. I promised Reed and the others that I would help keep an eye on you.”

She cocked an eyebrow. “So, it wasn’t just my body language.”

“Not completely, no. We’ve all been briefed about the situation,” I said.

Snow covered her face with her hands and let out a groan. “I’m sorry, I don’t want to cause extra work for your staff.”

“It’s totally fine,” I said. “Besides, I find hide and seek to be a fun game.”

I kept an eye out, other escape plans in mind if I caught sight of the guy. I wasn’t going to leave Snow’s side.

“I appreciate you guys looking out for me.”

I looked into her eyes, bright blue and such a contrast to her hair and skin tone. She was absolutely striking.

She continued. “Do you guys always give such personal service though?”

I let out a dry laugh. If someone was obviously creepy, we’d kick them out, but we ran a pretty tight ship, and most people took the rules of the resort seriously before visiting.

“Only the very special ones.” I winked at her as I relaxed into the booth. I hoped the guy had given up and found someone who actually wanted his company. He’d had his choice of ladies in the club; he didn’t need to bother the one person who wanted nothing to do with him.

“What makes me special?” she asked, batting her thick, dark lashes up at me, a flirty smile on her lips.

Without realizing it, I leaned closer, as did she, though there was still the table separating us.

I should have sat beside her.

But then I wouldn’t have been able to keep an eye on the floor.

Which I’d neglected for a few seconds too long. A quick glance up, and I muttered, “Shit. Come on, I know of somewhere we can go that he can’t follow us.”

Snow’s hand was so tiny in mine, and she gave me a cute smile as I led her away, slipping behind plants and between dancing couples, ducking to avoid being seen as much as possible and creating a maze for him in order to try to catch up to us. The guy was always a few steps behind, no matter what. We were both laughing by the time I got us to the storeroom behind the bar, and made sure to close the door that said, “Employees only.”

Snow doubled over in laughter. “That was wild. I felt like a kid trying to run from my mom in the store.”

“Right? What’s up with that dude?”

“I don’t know, my best friend thinks he has a crush on me. He’s the HR manager at my company.”

“I think it’s more than a crush, he seems borderline obsessed.” I wasn’t laughing now. I was worried.

“Nah, Hunter is weird, but he’s not like that.” She bit her lower lip and I didn’t think she fully believed what she was saying, but then she smiled again. “I think he’s just lonely.”

“He’s an attractive man, I think he could find a lot of women to keep him company here.”

“Here’s hoping he does find someone.”

The storeroom was pretty cramped, and I noticed how close she was to me. I stared into her eyes, feeling like I could get lost in them. Her cherry lips beckoned me.

A step forward, and our bodies were barely touching. Just a whisper of a touch. Her breath caught in her throat.

I had one rule, but rules were meant to be broken, right?

A knock at the door pulled us both back to reality, and Snow moved two steps back, not meeting my gaze.

“Boss, you in there?” One of my employees called out. “We need more club soda.”

Great. I needed to get back to work.
