“Sorry,” she said, biting her lip.

“It’s fine,” I replied, taking a few more steps back. “I’ll just be sure to take some allergy medication next time we hang out.”

My bad joke made her smile, a smile that lit me up inside.

“Anyway, as I was starting to say, I’m Anthony and I’m one of the owners of the resort. I mostly handle the finances.”

“Ahh, so you’re the seventh owner that I have yet to meet.”

“You’ve met the rest of us?”

“I believe so, though there’s a lot of you and you sure like to wear multiple hats around here,” she said with an adorable laugh.

“That’s true, but I like to focus on the numbers and try not to get distracted too much.”

I looked at her up and down. There was a reason I didn’t typically interact with the customers. I feared it would distract me from my job, and checking Snow out, I was right to have those fears.

“Ah, well, it was nice to meet you, Anthony,” she said, her cheeks slightly pink. “I hope that you are able to step away from your spreadsheets sometime and that I see you around again.”

“Well, I often like to work near the pools when it’s nice outside, especially the one on the west side of the resort since it’s usually pretty quiet over there… so maybe we will run into each other again. If you like to swim, that is.”

“It just so happens that I am staying near that pool and was thinking of checking it out soon.”

“You should, it’s less busy than the central pool or the one near the club, a lot of drunken shenanigans over there. Too many distractions.”

Snow’s lips pulled back into a sexy smile. “I like quiet, and few distractions, so I guess I’ll see you around.”

Snow headed in the opposite direction, and I turned my head for one last look only to see her doing the exact same thing.

I’d definitely need to stock up on allergy medicine as long as she was around, but damn, it just might be worth it.

What an adventure I was already having. I laughed as I stepped into my cottage. The situation with Hunter was still awkward. No, scratch that, it was a downright pain in the ass. Hunter was going to cause me issues, that was clear. Unless he found someone who actually wanted his attention, that is, which I was praying for. I didn’t want to have to keep hiding from him. I wouldn’t be able to fully experience the resort that way, which would hinder my writing. The more I saw of the staff, the more I wanted to get out there and experience for myself everything the place had to offer.

My smile grew wider as I thought about both Jason and Anthony. Jason was so boyishly handsome, with shaggy dark blonde hair and just enough scruff to give off carefree vibes. His playful, goofy smile was so sweet. And the dimple in his left cheek when he smiled… I about melted the first time I saw it.

Anthony was interesting. Tall, dark and handsome might be a cliche, but it was made for men like him. Classically attractive, clean-cut, and the type of man you could bring home to your parents and know they’d instantly approve.

I knew when I called Rosie later, I’d have even more to swoon about than before.

I glanced over at my laptop which I had set up in the office nook. While I hadn’t explored too much yet, I knew I needed to get some ideas on paper, and with some fresh impressions in my mind, I walked over and sat down.

The blank page seemed to mock me, however. I watched the cursor blink and contemplated how to get started. It would help if I had an idea of what publications would be interested in the piece; it would give me a direction at least. It would help me to figure out the angle I wanted to take.

I opened my email for the first time since sending out the pitch to a few editors I knew. I scrolled through a lot of junk mail until I saw a response to one of my pitches. My heart raced as I clicked to open it only to feel the crushing weight of disappointment a second later when reading the words, “I’m sorry…” It wasn’t right for their publication; they tried to center their articles around family-friendly travel.

I knew this was going to be a hard article to pitch. I started thinking I should have gone somewhere more traditional—Hawaii or Jamaica, maybe.

But there were already so many articles about those types of locations and they were a hard sell. Most magazines wanted something different, which was what I was trying to give them.

I scrolled a little further and found another email. Another rejection. They didn’t specify why, just that it wasn’t right for their publication.

Leaning back in the chair, I wondered if maybe this entire trip was a mistake. Silly illusions of becoming a professional writer while not even thinking about the markets I was applying to. Then the whole ordeal with Hunter… It was causing a headache. I rubbed my temples.Relax, Snow. This is meant to be a vacation. If anything, even if you can’t publish the article, you can still have fun. You can still experience what the resort has to offer. Coming here wasn’t just about the article, that was an excuse because admitting that you wanted to be free and a bit hedonistic felt strange to you and you wanted to explore.

A knock came at the door, pulling me out of my thoughts. Glancing toward the entry, I debated if I should answer or not. What if it was Hunter? I didn’t want to deal with him.
