“Yes?” I asked her.

“Hi, my name is Snow, and I was wondering if guests were allowed to use the computers here to work?”

“Are you planning to work on your vacation, Snow?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Well, I’m a writer,” she replied. “I brought my laptop, but sometimes I work better in places with some background noise.

“Oh, you came here to write?” I asked, even more intrigued. I would have to catch up with her later. Then it hit me—she might be the journalist Reed had told us about.Better be on your best behavior then, Bash.

“I did,” she said.

“Well, I hope to see you in the library sometime. Yes, the computers are free for all guests to use,” I said.

“Do we need to sign up ahead of time or register?”

I laughed. “Usually the computers don’t get much use, since most people travel here to enjoy the amenities they don’t have at home, so no, no need to schedule a time or anything. There’s always at least a few open at any given time of day.”

Snow seemed to be the only one interested in the library but I continued the tour noting the different genres.

“And here is our erotic section,” I said, pointing to the largest section in the library. It was also the most popular. “We have it broken up by type.”

Snow raised her hand again. “Type?” she asked when I motioned for her to speak.

“Yes. For instance, this area right here is erotic romance—some are love stories with happy endings and others are just pure erotica. Over there, you can find the paranormal if ghosts, aliens and the like are your style. There are some good ghost stories regarding people being visited by a sexy apparition and things get heated—”

“Excuse me, did you say a ‘sexy apparition’?” She let out the most adorable giggle. Her cheeks flushed bright pink and she couldn’t meet my gaze for a second. She seemed so sweet and innocent compared to our usual guests, and for some reason, it drove me absolutely wild.I didn’t make a habit of hooking up with guests, and I didn't intend to break that rule, so I quickly turned back to the crowd.

“Yes, exactly. We don’t judge around here, there’s a little something for everyone. The oppressive and malevolent are also included in that section—there have been reported instances of dark entities visiting victims in their sleep and having sex with them.

“Are there any more questions? We are always here to help you find the right book and remember, no judgement—whatever you are interested in please feel free to ask.”

As the group moved along, Snow stayed back, kneeling down in front of the paranormal section, reading the back of a ghost story. She stood up with the book in hand, laughing. “I can’t believe this exists, but even more surprising is that I might be interested in reading it.”

“We can check it out for you, if you’d like,” I said. She looked at the book for a few seconds, her cheeks still pink and an amused grin splashed across her face. “You’re not going to judge, right? I’ve never read anything like this before and it sounds interesting and mysterious. I’m curious.”

“Why would I judge you? There’s nothing wrong with curiosity and exploring new things.”

I led her to the front and went through the checkout process, showing her how to use her wristband to check out the book.

“So you’re a writer… Reed said we would have a journalist joining us. I’m guessing that would be you?”

“It is,” she said. “Though I wouldn’t call myself a journalist yet, I’m just getting started.”

“You write travel articles?”

“I do, well, I’ve written a few… I haven’t been able to travel as much as I would like, my day job keeps me very busy. Though things might be changing there so I might have more free time in the future and hopefully that will allow me to focus more on my writing.”

“Yes, it can be hard to write while working full-time. I’ve been working on my novel for three years and no closer to being done than I was two years ago, but most of that is my fault.”

“You’re writing a novel?” She cocked her head to the side.

“If you can call staring at the screen and doubting every word you type as writing, then yes.”

“Oh, I feel you there,” she said with a laugh. She looked at me with her bright eyes as if studying me. “May I ask you a question, Bash?”

“Of course, I’m an open book. No pun intended.”

She let out another adorable chuckle and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. “Your accent, where is it from?”
