Her question caught me off guard.

“France. I’m actually surprised you picked up on it, to be honest. Most people don’t.”

“It’s very, very subtle, that’s why I wasn’t sure. So, France, huh?”

“Oui,” I said playfully. “And non. I’m also from the United States. I was raised in both countries, though most of my teen years were spent in a boarding school in Switzerland.”

“That’s so fascinating,” she said. “Are your parents dual citizens?”

“My mom is, born in the U.S. but moved to France as a child. My dad is 100% French, but his business often had us moving around a lot.”

“What does he do?”

“He works in the fashion industry. Pretty stereotypical, I guess.”

I left out the part about him owning his own textiles and fashion house, as it often made people look at me differently as soon as they realized who my dad was.

“You’ve traveled a lot then?” she asked, her eyes filling with wanderlust.

“I have. I’ve lived a privileged life.”

“I’m so jealous,” she said. “I want to travel the world, but so far, I haven’t been able to leave the U.S., and to imagine growing up living all over, it sounds very nice.”

“I hope that you will have every opportunity to travel the world one day.” I replied suddenly realizing that we had chatted so long, we had likely lost the tour group.

The door to the library opened, and a large man entered.

“Welcome,” I said.

Snow glanced over her shoulder and let out a low sigh. She grabbed the book and tucked it away under her arm. “It was nice talking to you, Bash, but I think that’s my signal to leave.”

“Do you know him?” I whispered under my breath as the man drew closer to us. He wasn’t looking at any of the books, his gaze was on Snow.

“I do, but it’s a long story—”

“If he gives you any trouble, do not hesitate to let any of us know,” I said, keeping my voice low. I looked over at the guy who now stood behind Snow.

“Thanks for the book,” Snow said.

“Here, let me escort you to the next part of the tour,” I said, stepping out from behind the desk. I turned to the man. “Melissa can help you, sir.”

“I’m not here for a book, I was looking for Snow.”

Snow pursed her lips together. “Hunter, I really need to get on with the rest of the tour, I’m sure there’s some important information I’m missing.”

I escorted Snow toward the door, looking back at Hunter. He was now following us out.I could already tell he was going to cause trouble.

“We can address all of your medical needs should something come up such as if you find yourself with a stomach bug or a sore throat, we gotcha covered. If it’s an emergency, we can keep you stable until EMTs arrive, and there are several local hospitals in the area. We are prepared, so leave the worrying to us.” As I was explaining the medical center, a lovely dark-haired woman joined the group, with Bash at her side. A man walked up behind them and also joined. I had seen him leave earlier just as I began speaking and had tried to ask him if he needed anything, but he hadn’t responded.

“You two,” I said, pointing to the two latecomers, “This is the most important part of the tour, so if you can hold back a second, I’d appreciate it. I just want to make sure you have all the info you need.”

“Sure,” the woman said.

The guy still didn’t answer me and wasn’t even looking at me.
